Yes, I agree with you on both Reason and Reaper.
In my opinion, Reason is a little outdated – I have a friend who is learning it at school and he constantly tries to make me learn it as well. To be honest, I don’t see what the big fuss around it is. Yeah, it has some nice effects and some nice synths – but look at Sonar Studio for example. At half the price of Reason you get Z3ta, Rapture LE, Dimension LE and VST support. I’m not saying Reason is bad, but I don’t see it as good as it used to be. I prefer not having any native synths and having VST support.
Just think about Reason’s synths. Subtractor? It’s nothing special, seriously. Synth1, Oatmeal, TAL Noise Maker kick its ass. Malstrom? It’s ok but there is Crystal. Not quite the same, but still a good replacement. Now Thor is quite amazing but it can’t really compare to super synths like Alchemy or Omnisphere. I now they are not in the same league and it’s pretty stupid to compare them, but I’m just saying that Reason really doesn’t have anything top notch or special.
With Reaper it’s a different story but to be honest I think people are making a bit too much fuss about it. Yeah, it is a nice DAW but in terms of MIDI it can’t compare to Podium. Honestly, not many DAWs (from what I’ve seen) can compare to Podium.
Anyway, I really appreciate all your comments Telenator. You seem to be all over the forum giving good advice. Keep it up!
Cheers,
Cris
