First , i want to report a bug
-i have 4 tracks (ch 1/2,3/4,5/6,7/8 of multichannel vsampler 3.5) grouped under a master track in podium, in a new clean project. When i draw a 4 bar wave with the pencil into the master track and i hit ctrl+b podium crashes.
i use podium 1.47 demo
Second, i want to sugest you some changes wich will also probably have some market impact (good one)
1. Change the word “bounce” to “freeze” and add a freeze button on each track (that do exactly what ctrl+b does)
(This is an easely to implement feature and i hope you will understand it and implement it fast (if its not on the way already))
(advertise this feature as group/buss freezing on the homepage and you-ll receive some more hits from google).
2. I know you worked alot on Project Wizard but i can do its job in Cubase in just 1 click without any wizzards at all so you should move some of those actions into setting menu (like audio/midi in outs) and get rid of project wizard (sorry)
more soon… i am thinkin … 🙂
And just some feedback:
I dont like the hierarchic mixing engine, I LOVE IT !!!! (of corse only combined with the offline bounce at any hierarhic level that you implemented:) )

Could you email me the project file as it is just before the crash?

If you have set up a bounce track, then the freeze button is there in the disguise of the ‘B’ button. I think the word ‘bounce’ is a better description than ‘freeze’, considering that bounce tracks can be used with hardware devices and realtime recording too. But maybe other users have some input on this?
Also, unlike with frozen tracks, you can actually use the resulting audio as audio 🙂

Not sure I agree with that – I like having the configuration options seperate because it keeps the main menu free from clutter. It’s not (usually) the sort of thing that requires a lot of changes. We don’t want Podium to end up like the nonsensical menu hell that was Logic Audio 3/4.
Just remember; Ctrl+W is your friend if you need quick access to configuration level settings!

Yeah, that’s why I prefer “bounce” word.
And I totally agree with CPB‘s post about Podium’s wizard.
1. ok, i understand, i agree with you on this now. But B buton does not offline bouncing (offline bounce = ctrl+b), it just switches between already bounced track and the the unbounced ones.
2. i always use the same midi ins/outs and audio ins/outs, so why should i tell podium each time this thing?
new:
3. what are those checkboxes for tempo and time signature for?
4. how can i set the volume of files played in the list? and what its audio path ? (i cant see it in the mixer)
Question:
I have one track (track1) with some audio samples on it, i wrap it in a new bounce track and hit ctrl+b, then i add some more samples on track 1 after the end of the bounce region and select bounce track and hit ctrl+b,
but the bounce audio event does not extend automaticaly so it does not bounce the new added samples too until i manualy resize the bounce track audio event.
Is this the desired behaviour for a bounce track?
I think there is a little confusion about the bounce thing (at least for me). If for bouncing i need a specialy created bounce track, then why there is an option for each track to make it bounceable ? Or in reverse order, if any track can be bounceable why there is a “Wrap in a new bounce track” option?
i’ll add more soon….:)
thnx
1. ok, i understand, i agree with you on this now. But B buton does not offline bouncing (offline bounce = ctrl+b), it just switches between already bounced track and the the unbounced ones.
You need to hold the control key and click on the B button to do the bounce rendering. Toggling the B button can be used to compare a previous bounce render with edits you made on the track.
2. i always use the same midi ins/outs and audio ins/outs, so why should i tell podium each time this thing?
You can create a default project file with a basic studio setup, which will be loaded when you select the ‘new project’ menu. This is explained in the project wizard.
3. what are those checkboxes for tempo and time signature for?
With those you can select whether a tempo event sets a new tempo, a new time signature, or both.
4. how can i set the volume of files played in the list? and what its audio path ? (i cant see it in the mixer)
You use the gain dial to control the output of the track. Support for setting a volume curve on each sound event on the tracks is coming in a future update.
but the bounce audio event does not extend automaticaly so it does not bounce the new added samples too until i manualy resize the bounce track audio event.
Is this the desired behaviour for a bounce track?
That is the intended behaviour, as it was originally designed. After I recently added bounce rendering, I’m considering changing this, so that bouncing automatically creates the sound events, like when you record audio inputs.

The ‘wrap in new bounce track’ is just a shortcut. It does the same as the ‘wrap in new group track’ and then enabling the bounce mode in the group track properties.

Yup, i know how it works, i just sugested that B directly do it offline, you can change ctrl+B to do it online…heh? what do you think ? (i hope other users will reply on this)

i mean the list that opens in the right of the screen, you know, the file browser, where you can hit enter and play files from hdd (view menu->new list window, ctrl+L, or the List button near the help button)
and the rest of them are solved too
thnx, cya

You can’t change the audition volume in the lists. They are played straight through to the soundcard output.

i understand, maybe youl add a volume controll to the list window sometime, i will find it usefull
few more:
– mono files in the list (ctrl+L) are played only to the left channel
– every time i want to save my work i have to go to the project window first wich means few more clicks than it should (in other software there is Ctrl+S, or save button directly in the sequencer)
– podium->energyxte->waveshell – does not work while
energyxt(standalone)->energyxte->waveshell – works

ctrl+s and ctrl+shift+alt+s (save all changes) works ok here (even from arrangement window). Also you can edit your profile settings so ‘file’ menu will be available from the arrangement window too.

I don’t have VSampler, but I substituted it for another multi-out instrument, as you suggested. I could not make it crash. Have you recreated the crash with other instruments than VSampler? When the crash occurs, are there any dialogs appearing? Does the bounce render progress dialog appear before the crash?
Hi,
Seems that i cannot reproduce that bug again here. Sorry but I played alot with podium since i was having that problem and i probably changed something in podium settings (and i also deleted the project i sended to you).
I also noticed that if i load any VSTi (multiple outs or not) into podium and i wrap it in a new bounce track and i check “unload plugins when bounce is activated” the same crash type ocurs ( bounce render progress dialog appear but the progress bar does not advance). I was probably doing the same thing with vsampler without noticing this detail.
If i can help more please let me know.
cya
I can’t provoke a crash either with the ‘unload plugins…’ option.
What are your PC specs? Do you use hyperthreading/multiprocessing?
