    Hey Frits,

Loving the way you implemented the bussing system! Ran some vocals through the Roomverb last night and they sounded fabulous. It’s cool being able to map the Aux sends to just the tracks you are bussing!

    1. Was wondering if you are considering, some time in the future, of developing the audio loops aspect of Podium? By that I mean, having Podium handle sound loops the way that Acid and Sonar do (having the loop adjust to the song tempo). Loops are so prevalant these days and further developing the looping features would put Podium in class by itself! On a side note: I haven’t used any audio loops within Podium yet; in fact I’m not even sure how to bring them into the sequencer page. I know how to import them to the Podium folder page and preview them, but not clear on how to get from there to an audio track in the sequencer.

    2. Any thoughts of adding a Music Notation Editor, in addition to the piano roll editor?

I am going to improve this area at some point. There are a few different approaches to this; Implementing time-stretching and implementing beat-slicing. Beat-slicing will only be useful for percussive loops, so I guess the first step would be to implement some sort of time-stretching. Currently I feel there is a couple of months worth of work on other stuff, before I will begin experimenting with this.

in fact I’m not even sure how to bring them into the sequencer page.

Open an object list window (Ctrl+L). Drag sound objects from the left-pane list or wav files from the right-pane list, onto the tracks.

It will be a huge task to implement this. I don’t intend Podium to become a full-blown professional score-editor, but maybe at some point in the distant future I will add a simple notation editor.

The way I handle imprted audio:

on the project page, create a new folder, give it a sensible name
In the folder, do New->New Sound

Find the file, give it a sensible name

Repeat for all files, in as many folders as makes sense (Guitar, Drums, Organ, Vox, etc)

in the arrangement, press CTRL+L to get the Object list. On the left, you will notice your new folders with the sounds nicely arranged therein. Drag from the Object List into your track, et voila! repeat as required.

    OR

Drag a WAV from explorer onto Podium, it appears in the Object list. Not so tidy, but fast. You can sort out the sounds into folders at your leisure..

    Frits,

Thanks for the responses. Frits, I like your thinking on the time stretching and beat slicing implementation. The reason I requested it is that there are times I get clients wanting to use audio loops in some of their project. Presently I’ve shelved all of my other sequencing and recording software, with the exception of Acid 4, and of course Podium. When you do incorporate those features in the future, Podium will operate as a totally self sufficient host. Hats off to what you’ve accomplished so far! Podium is already a serious piece of software in my book and I like the way you’ve implemented the users requests. I hope the Podium site traffic has been picking up a bit for you, I recommend it to others whenever the opportunity presents itself.

    Duncan,

Thank you sir for your thorough explinations! They have been a great help! I have 2 songs out for copyright right now, as soon as I know they’re protected, I’ll post them up in the music section. I’d love to hear some of the tracks you’ve been cutting with Podium too Duncan…AL
