MelodyManParticipantIn Tracktion and Samplitude it is possible to apply an effect to a specific part of an audiofile. For example, in Tracktion you “slice” the file up and then you can apply an effect to every slice by dragging and dropping an effect on to it.
Is something similar possible in Podium? Or is there a Podium-way to mimic this?

ZynewaveKeymasterNot possible in Podium. All plugins are managed on the track.
What you can do is: Insert a new track. Split the audio file. Move the audio fragment to the new track. Assign the effect on the new track.

kyranParticipantSlice up the file, put the bits on different tracks and effect away.
If you want to tidy up a bit afterwards: put them all in a group track and bounce the group track. The result is one wav file with different effects on different bits π

ZynewaveKeymasterKyrans answer is much better than mine π

MelodyManParticipantOk, thanks. Is this a feature that could make it into future-releases?

I’m not the programmer, but I doubt it. In podium an effect is assigned to a track. It’s one of the basic concepts of the program, and those are quite hard to change.
Only the two hosts you mention allow this actually, or at least, I can’t think of any other.

thcilnnahojParticipantAlso useful for less natural effects is to do this with automation.
I like to apply distortion, delay or reverb just to small sections sometimes. But having a different track for those would often result in the tail overlapping with the non-effected sections, when I really want it to cut off abruptly instead. So I just blend in the effect for a short time… Like in the good old days. πSonar has this “clip fx” feature too, I believe.

MelodyManParticipantI’m not a programmer at all but i got this idea:
When you slice up an audiotrack, the slices automatically get numbers. So if you have four slices the slices are numbered 1 to 4.
When you right click an effect on the track, you get the option “assign effect to slice (dropdownmenu with options “all”, 1, 2, 3, 4)”.
The effect affects the whole file/track as default and when assigned to a specific slice, it only affects that slice.
Does that sound like a good idea?

I’m having a hard time moving these bits to another track. When i drag and drop the moved slice mostly is a bit out of time. Is there a clever way to move the slice?

thcilnnahojParticipantYes! While dragging the event to another track, hold shift to lock its position on the timeline.

Thanks! I read that in the manual but performed it wrongly. I held shift first and then began dragging. But you have to click to drag first and then hold the shift-button.
I have another question. Is there a way to copy a track with just the effect rack and not the audio-events on it?

kyranParticipantUse the save as track template function. (You can choose to include events in the template if you wish)
There might be a faster/more elegant way I don’t know about π

Another method that does not involve track templates:
Select the track you want to copy. Select “Track/Clipboard/Copy Track” (Ctrl+C). Select the destination track. Select “Track/Clipboard/Replace Effect Chain” (Ctrl+Shift+V).

Great, thanks!

So does Reaper
Would be good for Podium to have this.
