spoonboilerParticipantI have been trying to finish a song in Poduim for over two weeks, and I have come to a conclusion. I need a sample browser with audition, and I need to be able to drag and drop. I have too many samples to be loading them up one at a time. Without audition, I am sunk. It keeps dragging me back to FL, witch is very frustrating, but I just can’t seem to function any other way. If I can’t preview samples, I just get stuck.
So, here is the last thing that is keeping me on the fence. If I knew that there was going to be something like the way FL (doesn’t have to be like FL at all, or even be like the following idea) deals with samples, ie; browser/audition, and some kind of “channel settings” box, sort of like a single sample player with just the most basic and rudimentary tweaking so that I could use it as an audio clip, OR use MIDI to trigger it over a keyrange, then I would be a lifelong Podium boy! It is only those two things that keep me chained unhappily to the Fruit. I love the way Podium works in all other aspects. The stuff that is coming is exciting, and if MIDI interaction between plugins/ tracks becomes possible, it would be a dream… but I am still stuck without the sample stuff. 🙁
OH well. You can’t please everyone, I am well aware. And I certainly am not arrogant enough to think of asking you to change any of your dev plans just for one more customer. I guess I am just hoping that you had thought of doing something like that, either as a standard feature, or an addon pack…. the “fruit flavoured addon pack” hahahaha! Kidding… it just seems after proof reading this post, as if I am asking you to turn Podium into FL and that is totally not it. I just can’t think of anything else beside Muzys and the old trackers that can do that stuff with samples, and yet it is such an amazingly efficient way of doing things.May 5, 2004 at 23:46 #3216
jensParticipanthey Spoon,
I’ve asked for a prelistening-function month ago during beta-testing
and afaik it’s on the todo since then 😉 😀May 5, 2004 at 23:53 #3217
ZynewaveKeymasterI was just about to suggest you use the Windows file explorer as your audition window. If you ‘Enable Web contents in folders’ in the Folder Options dialog, you get a miniature player embedded in the explorer window when you select a sound file. I then realized this won’t work because Podium locks the soundcard 🙄
So I guess I have to implement a ‘Media file browser’ window. Kind of like what you have in Acid. I can’t promise you this within the first month. I do intend to fairly soon implement direct dragging of sound files onto tracks, and at that time will probably do some experiments with a browser window.

😮 😯 – a full blown media-browser??? – That’s a bit greedy, isn’t it?
😆

spoonboilerParticipantI think that does it! I am just going to have to find the money for this, that’s all there is to it ❗
I also started thinking about something I read in the future updates list that didn’t sink in at first; there is something about mapping more than one soundfile to a track…. would this be a keymapping sort of thing? So that lets say I like a particular atmospheric sound, but I want it in two parts of the song in different keys; instead of having to make a new track, and re-tune the sample, I could instead use a piano roll type of thing? (like Muzys)
God, I am rambling on and on again… I’m like the king of mega-posts!!
Do I have the idea, or is it something else that you meant?May 6, 2004 at 10:13 #3221

This does not ring a bell, sorry. If you refer to the ‘Assignment of multiple mappings to one track’ in the future page, then this has to do with assigning e.g. multiple plugin mappings to the same track, so you can avoid creating multiple nested tracks if you want to create an effects chain.

spoonboilerParticipantoops 😳
I totally misread that one! sorry.
Sounds like a good idea though, that multiple nests thing… er, nesting. Plugins have nests? 😳
