I have just been experimenting with automation in Sonar and feel it could be made simpler to use in Podium. So I have a suggestion that might make adding automation simpler to add to Podium.

My suggestion is that to create automation, you would have to set up the controls in the Device Mappings. In the Device Mapping Properties, under MIDI input configuration, there would be a controller checkbox and next to that the channel control number, RPN or NRPN number that you want it to respond to. A MIDI learn button could be added (would be very nice!)

Then, you simply drag the MIDI input map (of the controller) to the automation track that you require.

Eg) I set up a MIDI Device and call it “Slider 1”, setting it up to my MIDI input device and checking it as a controller, setting it to channel control 29 (or whatever my slider 1 transmits). Now if I want slider 1 to control a VST parameter, MIDI parameter or Mixer parameter, I would create that track on my arrangement and set the input device to “Slider 1” that I set up.

Not sure how simple that would be to implement, but it would make a vast improvement to the program (however it is done!).

What I had in mind was to extend the parameter properties dialog to allow configuration of a VST/mixer parameter to also define a MIDI message. In the parameter panel there would be a MIDI learn option, which will take the incoming MIDI message and set it in the currently selected VST/mixer parameter. When that MIDI message is received it would control the VST/mixer parameter rather than sending the MIDI message to the device. Would this solution be useful to you?

    Perfekt! Very Useful!
