Hi Frits,
I’ve spent a few hours playing around with the new Bounce options. I’m very impressed and I’ve managed to work out how to bounce the MIDI from a VSTi, how to bounce multiple outputs from Stylus RMX and how to bounce existing audio, but I can’t work out how to record the output of Reason rewired into Podium.
I have 10 audio feeds coming from Reason into Podium. The MIDI is in Reason, and I want to use Podium to record these audio outputs to WAV in real time. I have tried every combination of bounce that I can think of, but I can’t seem to get Podium to record.
Can you tell me what settings I should have to record the audio outputs from Reason to audio files in Podium?
Cheers,
Malcolm.
On each track where you have assigned a Reason audio output, select the “realtime recording” mode in the “bounce > bounce mode” submenu.
Use the “activate realtime record” or use Ctrl+B to toggle record mode on the track. See the popup help for the “B” button.
Enable record mode on the transport toolbar and start playback.
Once the recording is done, click the B button to toggle from bounce recording to bounce playback.
Hi Frits,
I have tried that, but I don’t get any recorded audio. When I click the B button to enable bounce playback I get silence.
Any idea what’s going wrong?
Cheers,
Malcolm.
I assume you’ve verified that the track you’re bounce recording is producing audio, i.e. the meters are active. When you do the bounce recording, the recorded audio waveform will be drawn with red color overlaid on the track. Do you get the red waveform overlay?
Yes, I can hear the audio from Reason when I press play in Podium, and the meters happily bounce up and down. I am not getting any waveform or the red colour overlay when I try to bounce.
Please recheck the steps I described in my first post. Once you have selected “realtime recording” mode, selected “activate realtime record” and enabled the transport record mode, then the “B” button on the track should be red, and two red lines (if stereo) should be drawn on the track timeline, representing the empty waveform. As soon as you start recording the waveform should render on the timeline.
If not, please email me a copy of your project file, with the track set up for realtime recording.
I have emailed you a sample project.
Cheers,
Malcolm.
Thanks. The red lines don’t appear because your sample arrangement does not have any events on the timeline. The waveform extends to the end of the arrangement, so if I place e.g. a marker event at bar 37, then the red waveform extends to bar 37.
Could that be the problem with your real project file? Don’t you have any MIDI events on the timeline that plays the Reason synths?

No, as per my first post the MIDI for these tracks is in Reason. I don’t want to redo the MIDI in Podium – I just want to use Podium to record the audio outputs from Reason.
Do I need to do the MIDI in Podium in order to be able to bounce?
Cheers,
Malcolm.

No, but as a test, try to place a marker event at the time position matching the duration of your Reason song. Once you’ve placed the marker event, do you see the “B” button light up in red and the waveform lines on the timeline? Remember that you need to activate the record button on the transport as well.

OK, that works! Thanks! 🙂
I was expecting Podium to treat the audio returns from Reason the same way it treats an audio input from my audio device. With an audio input I don’t need to place any markers in the arrangement to start recording.

Malcolm.
