    ….using on/off?

    Do i need to have an fx as a track to change levels?

    Yes. Open the parameter panel in the inspector, click the device button and double-click the desired parameter to create an automation track.

    Or record enable the plugin track, and move the controls in the plugin editor during recording.

    Frits, I do not know if you saw my edit. I meant can I turn an fx on and off with automation?

    You can’t, unless the plugin has an on/off or bypass parameter.
