Recording on track 1.
Saving first 4 measures of guitar on track 1.
Moving to measure 24 on track 1.
Arm to record guitar.
Entire track 1 shows record- i record four bars at measure 24 on track 1.
I decide to delete four bars at measure 24 of track 1. I have to chose the cutting tool, make a slice, highlight the last recorded media, and delete. because…….the entire track is a single file and requires a split and cut to remove the last four measures on track 1.
This is what I need to change, it is far too slow.
Or is there a better way?
am i being clear? there must be a more effecient way……..right!
In the interest of understanding you…
In other programs one could just highlight that area recorded at the 24th measure and hit delete. Podium does not allow for this?

in most other programs you would highlight the new file at the 24th measure and hit the delete key. in podium you cannot as the track is now connected with the first 4 measures. this seems to be a flaw in the record set up or my use of it?
also, Podium is the only software i have ever worked with where when you hit record on any track, from any point, the entire track is record enabled instead of the point where the cursor starts. i find it a bit difficult, particularly if you are putting multiple recordings at different points on the same track. however, maybe i am unaware of how to change this?
Isn’t the segment tool for this kind of thing?
Mart.

Ah, I guess you’re talking about working in the main arrangement rather that individual editors. I can’t find a way to quickly select and delete parts from individual tracks in the arrangement editor. Ctrl+T will make a cut at the cursor position though. Are you using the red punch in/out markers when recording?
Mart.

nah, when i am 20 measures away it is easier to just hit record. i am hoping i can change the behavior!

Oh, Ok – fair enough.
Mart.
You should use punch in/out to restrict the timeline you want to record on.
There are keyboard shortcuts for controlling punch in/out. You can see those by enabling popup help and hover over the punch in/out buttons and the punch range field next to them. The shortcuts you are most likely looking for are:
Press I to toggle punch in mode.
Press Shift+I to set punch in at the cursor.
o.k. Frits, i will try that.
