Podium is getting better :-).
1. I like the new navigation stuff, but can the previous scroll used too?
2. The “marker” part of the timeline ruler taking up unnecessary space (not much, maybe an inch, but still) , could it be switched off with a button?
3. The new navigation stuff should be switchable too, cause theres not much space to look at the arrangement.
4. Lot of empty space at the top of the arrangement section (!) , maybe there would be space for hotbuttons to customize the interface? It would enable fast switching :).
For example a button to on/off the new navigation section, on/off the scrollbars, show/hide the mixer instead of dragging etc… Would make life so much faster!
Any thoughts?
Cheers

Yes. Open the “editor profile properties” from the view menu, and insert a “scrollbar” region where you want it.

You can achieve that by setting up multiple editor profiles. You can create a copy of the default arrangement profile, and remove the navigator, marker, tempo, mixer, embedded editor, etc. to have a profile that uses the maximum space for the tracks region. You can then switch between the profiles using the view menu, or the F8/Shift+F8 shortcut keys.

I assume you mean the right part of the toolbar. You can configure the toolbar and add/remove any controls you want. I could add shortcut buttons for switching between the editor profiles. That would in effect give you the buttons you want.
Well in this case i have to say you are such a genious i cant express it, really.
I hope you make shitload of cash out of this Podium project, if not, ask the users to promote it in popular forums.
I will buy a license as soon as i get back to production.
(Also i think the 50$/year is a really good bussiness model.)
Very-very decent job, congratulations.

I checked it and nope, i thought about the empty space next to the timeline at the left, above the track names.
But its not that important now i know about the editor profiles. Cool feature.
Cheers

I have plans for adding controls for a snapshot feature in the space to the left of the navigator. The space left of the marker and tempo lanes show the value at the zoomed timeline start.
Well, unfortunately ive spent some serious time making noise again (which i shouldnt since i have a lot of work).
After some hours of testing, i think podiums weakest link is the lack of advanced routing… the hierarchic mixing engine looks clever, but i cant really make parallel inserts?? Like this…
---- Distortion A
Synth ---- Distortion B --- Compressor
/
---- Distortion C /
| | |
| (Send Reverb)
|
(Dist A, B, C -> ) Reverb
Am i too used to modularity? Can it be done somehow without getting a headache?

You could create a send device for each distortion, put each of them on 100%. Make all the returns children of the compressor track. Put a mute plugin on the synth track and then group all the returns and the synthtrack to keep your working space neat and tidy.
It’s a bit elaborate, but it can be done.
Alternatively: you can insert ext1.4 as an fx. Or you can use ohmicide for this particular case.
I think you might be too used to modularity. It’s not that it can’t be done; but if you’re looking for a solution even half as easy as XT, then to my knowledge Podium doesn’t do it.
But it’s true that XT1.4.1 inside Podium allows a lot of modularity, but it’s easy to say for a person like me who owns licences for both. I think you sold your XT one before? Usually I use XT on the track and put synth and fx all in there, like a container for that track entirely. Or I put the synth in Podium and just one insert FX, which is XT. It still allows a lot of flexibility .. but then, I haven’t done a whole lot of audio work recently and so I am only thinking logically, not for practice.
Thanks for the reply guys.
I didnt sell the other license, nobody bought it, and i decided to keep it in case i want to port my old projects (not thats likely to happen since i got much better since then , but its fun to analyze my old tracks).
Well, i think i will use Podium for arrangement, and the mentioned host for sound design work, until i can make all my ideas in Podium.
(I know 2 guys who do sound design for movies and games, neither of them can live without a modular environment).
Ahh this is so freakin sad :(. But i think with Podium i will be still closer to my goals, even with a slower workflow…
And who knows… Podium is at least being developed well, so maybe one day we will get that zGrid? (I searched this forum and found some interesting threads…)

Though it would not help with your particular problem, it could very much improve podiums flexibility, so it could handle some tasks known from modular hosts alot better, but in its own way.
Hope Mikes idea makes it into podium at one point.

Yes, that solution would be easy, fit into Podiums current design, not nearly as good as the usual wire anything-to-anything but definitely a big yes for sound designers.
