I was trying the new 2.29 feature that allows move a folder to the arrangement and you’ve all multitimbral/multiout plugins in a group of child track.

Then I thought I can have three D16 Drumazons (single output / 4 outputs / 12 outputs) and I started to move and copy plugins in the Device Panel in different folders. I had all D16 plugins in a folder called D16, and I moved all of them to the root, except mono versions of the effect that were moved to a folder called “Mono FX” (i like a pretty straightforward enviroment) and I deleted the old and empty D16 folder (!!).

Later I discovered that the plugins aren’t showed in the arrangement view 😕 so I started to investigate and I see that any of D16 plugins had a Device Definition folder.

So I rescanned all the database again and this time I moved the plugins with its device definition folder, cutting and pasting now in the Advanced Device Panel (I dont know how to call that feature where you see tons of folders with plugins/presets/parameters/sound/arrangement etc). Podium warnned me that cutting the Device Definition folder the plugin would be disconnected. But I thought that when I paste the folder again it would be connected automatically again. Wrong. I had to rescan again the plugin database.

    Now my questions:
1- How can I “connect” a Device Definition folder to a plugin again?
2- (Feature request warning) Why don’t you create an automatic (and maybe invisible) folder with all -and only- Device Definition folders? In this way a new user won’t be so confused if he/she start to move and delete folders.
3- Is there any oher method to move the plugins in the Device Panel without problems that I’m missing?

    Best regards

It’s going to be tedious work, but you can do it with the “Device definition” combobox in the device mapping properties dialog.

That could be a solution. But I’ll at least implement it so that when you move all the mappings to another folder, then the device definition folder will automatically be moved along.

The recommended way to create additional instances of a global plugin, is to right click the folder or one of the mappings inside the folder, and select “New Instance”. You can then drag the folders around, but don’t use cut/paste for device definitions.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll do the work

That’s would be nice, but think that user could create a new copy of the plugin instead move it and the confusion would start again (two device definitions).

    Best regards
