A spin off idea from Ronins thread here but this FR is not about the Play Cursor but the Edit cursor.
Ableton Live…
When you are in the arrange view if you click on the timeline your project continues to play (just like Podium) but..if you click for instance 4 bars ahead of the Play Cursor in Ableton Live the application will delay playback moving to it’s new destination (4 bars ahead for instance), by a user defined amount but remain in perfect sync with playback. A small cursor (just like Podiums Edit Cursor) indicates the new starting point for the cursor.
It’s set to 1bar by default and works extremely well. Everything you do in Ableton is synced up perfectly including clicking on it’s time line to move it’s cursor ahead or behind it’s current position during playback.
Podium
…is very nearly there. One can already drag the Edit cursor to any place beyond or after the Play Cursor and even link them during playback…but once you have moved Podiums Edit Cursor it will not delay the movement of the Play cursor by a user pre defned amount as in Ableton Live (default 1 bar) for instance.
The image below shows the values a user can snap the cursor to in Lives Arangement view…
Podium already has similar options of course but they are not yet available for the Edit cursor. I think it would a be a superb workflow addition to Podiums Edit cursor to provide it with configurable values to snap to when used in during playback.
Podium has a gapless engine like Ableton’s Live. Much more use IMO can and should be made of it. 8)
