After using the amazing Sonalksis freebie (Free G) I must say it would really enhance Podiums mixing features if that sort of metering and mixing flexibility was built in…
KVR Sonalksis FreeG details
Of course Podium already has some of the features in the Free G plug but not any of these 6 featurettes…
1. The main display is a classic Peak-type level meter, which follows the signal in accordance with the metering type selected on the Preferences panel. The superimposed red bar displays the current instantaneous signal RMS.
So a simple RMS *and* Peak meter in one, just like FreeG but built into Podium available at track level and mixer level at least.
2. Selecting ‘Pre’ switches the fader to display the pre-fader, pre-pan, pretrim input signal.
Effectively Pre – Post switching in Podium with the level of detail available in FreeG.
3. PEAK: This box, and the red arrows on the meter, displays the current highest peak value recorded (using the metering law configured on the Preferences panel). Click boxes to reset.
Actually this is for left and right signals, also for RMS as well. Better explained in the FreeG quick guide but clearly visible on the plugin interface. It would be great to have that sort of reading on each track, mixer strip and Track Inspector in Podium.
4. The Trim dial provides a course input level adjustment. The Trim range can be configured using the preferences panel.
More info is available in the FreeG quick guide. A Trim function would be very useful in Podium.
5. The Flip Phase button inverts the phase of the signal, for mixing applications.
Another very handy feature that would enhance Podiums metering and mixing options.
6. Fine mode allows for an alternate method of fine-calibration of the fader. When the fader is set approximately, pressing ‘Fine’ will ‘zoom in’ on the fader, and offer a linear-law fader, which you can adjust with greater accuracy. The range of the Fine scale can be configured in the Preferences panel.
Highly useful. Would fit very nicely in Podium.
Frits if you have not already seen or used this plug not only is it a free plugin that you can download here…

…it already works in Podium (for comparisons and testing) and the Sonalksis Free G quick guide PDF
…is a very short read that provides a surprising amount of detail, making any implementation of better metering in Podium very straight forward as the ideas I have in mind are really all there in the quick guide. 🙂
Almost forgot…there is a mono version as well of the Free G plug, but in Podium a simple track level and mixer level mono / stereo switch would serve a similar purpose, essential IMO. 😉
Thank you to share! 😀

If Frits likes the ideas, the information and links I provided will hopefully make this much easier to implement. 8)
Now that v2 makes the use of device management and many other aspects soooo much easier, Meters and mixing looks quite weak in comparison now and it would really benefit from a revision of sorts. 🙁
Even a simple updated db value on each mixer strip and track in the arranger would make mixing far easier. While Free G is great (really great)it can get very tedious using Free G (opening closing each tracks Free G plug, to check levels e.t.c).
Really these features should be built in. Mixing in Podium is simply not as easy as some hosts IMO but it would take a very small adjustment to get the ball rolling to improve things significantly here. Even if you could only see a realtime db value in the mixer (and not tracks in the arrangement) right now I would take that with both hands…there is too much guess work without it. The absence of db values (realtime) makes a relatively easy job somewhat complicated.
The other features in Free G like Trim are also absolutely essential for mixing and the proper control of input levels. Really.
The remaining features are all very important but a realtime db value (in the mixer and /or tracks in the arranger) with at least a Trim function and some way to switch to RMS readings are really essentials for a serious professional mixing environment. Podium is a-l-m-o-s-t there.
