as suggested in the feature list thread :
please add a way to humanize note velocities in the very same way as we can humanize note positions – even in the same window.
Velocity modifications, random quantise, breath control, aftertouch — you name it. I’ve been saying everywhere I go that I’ll take any MIDI improvements I can get, especially any aids to realism. I found out rather quickly that this stuff can make all the difference in the world, aside from having a quality instrument. Even a good instrument can sound flat and artificial, a robotic plunking of notes without being able to build in the human element. I’ve managed to put together a modest collection of VSTi’s I really like. Now I need to get a handle on this sort thing.
Thanks for launching the poll. I think this one’s a more interesting subject than Do you want a dither, Yes or No?
Oh, I would definitely use it.
But speaking of polls, it will be most efficient if Frits himself creates a Thread dedicated to FR polls only. Thus all of them will be in one place, otherwise we will have tens of poll-threads all scattered all over the place and following them will be somewhat difficult.

i beg to differ – if everybody follows a very strict naming convention and creates a poll for every single request with always 3 choice ( yes / no / don’t know ) it should be very easy for Frits to identify what the users request and by having a poll for each request he can decide whether a reasonable bunch of users wants a certain feature ( read : must have ) or not ( nice to have )…
just my 2c
Now, do you REALLY believe Frits does not know already what the users want?! There were numerous threads with a ton of suggestions. I am sure Frits already has all the notes and ideas written down, as well as plans as to what it needs to be done.
This thread/poll, as well as the other one, serves a single real purpose – to give us all the chance to express our little needs, and in a sense is even therapeutic, talking about it!… 😉 Of course I hope and believe it can be relevant and give one or other feature a “faster lane”, but it’s NOT about helping Frits to identify needs. They were long ago identified and they haven’t change much.
But in any development is not only what the users need, but also what the developer needs. Like porting Podium to Windows 8… How many of us really need that? But I see why this is essential for Zynewave, and I completely agree.
The requests from us are important, no doubt, but being only one developer, and not full-time committed to Podium, Zynewave will inevitably get into delays and/or skipping some requested features, that otherwise would’ve been implemented. Time-streching is a prime example. Project/file management, auto-backup, the same. I guess we all just have to live with that, as Podium is the DAW we choose to work with and decided that it does the work the best for each one of us.
So, by all means, let us do those poll for each and every request we can think of, and let’s see what happenes.

i would NOT bet on this …
needs are without doubt subject to change…and priorities aswell
ymmv
just to make it clear : this is ONLY MY point of view – if you don’t agree your welcome to
🙂 Of course. Just as what I wrote is my oppinion…
I am not saying you’re not right, I even agree with you. What I am saying is that most of, if not all of the requests we’re coming up with now were mentioned, proposed, asked a while ago already. Frits KNOWS them all.
So, hopefully, we’ll see some of them solved, this being a good oportunity for us all to RE-emphasize what we need and would like to see in future updates of Podium.
A few random thoughts, and maybe even under 1000 words! . . . .
Without trying to be too obvious, I started the sister thread to this one partly just to review all and a reminder to all of us, not the least of us being Frits. Now, I did notice a few new items pop up as feature requests, some new info, too, and also I wanted to provide an encouraging space for anyone newer to the forum to have a fresh chance to get in on this. I’ve always disliked forums where you have a clique of insiders and then all the rest, who get the impression that their voices don’t carry equal weight somehow. It’s awesome that we don’t have that BS here at Zynewave.
I’m sure Frits knows 99.9% of everything users would like to see added. And now he knows where our heads are at right up to the minute. Very little in our thinking has changed but no matter. I feel it’s very good to restate everything. We’re not going to get the whole enchilada, you know, so it’s good to look over users’ top needs on some regular basis.
I know for a fact it is therapeutic — good to rethink things, good to discuss all once again, see if anything has changed, any new items, ideas, refinements to anyone’s requests . . .
I don’t care who posts the polls, but do remember that if Frits does it that’s time potentially taken away from design and planning. Probably the main reason I’ve offered to edit the Guide this year (besides the fact that it was something I enjoyed as a career) is that I like talented designers to design and not be forced to fiddle with the lessor bits. He’ll have enough with a Win8 write up, as probably none of us will have experience with it by then.
We brought requests together very quickly in the other thread; perhaps we can keep polls together in this one. I wouldn’t mind a poll on every item, even the boring stuff. When I first came to the forum and read to catch up I was finding requests all over the place, tucked in here and there, sometimes not even near the FUTURE sub-forum. Personally, I hope to find time to do a full analysis when it begins to look like things are sufficiently polled and talked to death. All in good time.
[Really enjoying this forum. I’ve taken to stopping by to unwind a little at 4 AM or so after gigs, especially if we had a rough one like last night. I’m beginning to think that pub owner may actually be a special species of slug.]
I just lost a long post due to a stupid internet connection, so I will only say the essence:
Frits knows very well all the basic FR that were reported in the last years, so when his time will allow him to do it, he will do it. I hope sooner than later. Before going wild, there are specific (and major some will say) lacks in Podium, and those will need to be done, to keep Podium up to date to other DAW, as right now it is behind.
Podium FREE is the best Freeware, no doubt.
But Podium, as a paid product, is mission in some areas, and I suppose that is why many people did not stick to it, despite many features that make it unique. People want to see development, action, a future. I also want to grow with my DAW. I don’t want to use Podium AND some other, just because I cannot MIDI effect, or I cannot timestretch, or cannot import a particular loop, or mp3, or all this stuff.
The bottom line is that no matter how many things we ask for, IT IS UP to Frits to implement them. Especially the old and basic ones. As Zynewave does not provide enough business, I understand he cannot dedicate all his time to it. That is why I am waiting, peacefully and hopeful, for wishful thinking to become true!
😉
This request made it into beta for 3.2 :D/ :D/ :D/ =D> =D> =D> 😀 😀 😀
