A few different requests that are somewhat related.

    Audio:
I would like, when doing multiple passes in loop mode, to see old tracks stack up under the current track being recorded. As of right the behavior is the opposite. After several passes the folder track will run off screen a lot of times. This is not a showstopper but more of a work flow feature. Is this something that could be toggled on or off in the preferences screen? If so, it wouldn’t have a negative impact on others that have gotten used to the way it is.

    Midi:
Currently when recording midi in looped mode doing multiple passes, subsequent passes add notes to the original clip. I see some merit in this, especially when doing drum/percusion parts. Once again, it would be helpful to have the option to toggle this behaviour on/off so that subsequent passes generate a new midi clip on a new track (or the same track). And once again, if this could be added as an option in preferences or on a right click menu at the track level I don’t think it would disturb those who prefer the current behaviour.

    Multiple take restrictions:
I noticed today while recording in loop mode that I was limited to 8 individual clips (audio takes). And that any further passes would overwrite the most current take (after 8). Once again, not a showstopper but, why the limit? And if its just an arbitrary limit can it be increased?

Others may not find the above items restrictive, I understand this. Let me explain why this has become an issue.

I do most of my recording (outside of my drum/percussion parts) as live takes. I also find that I get better takes during the 2nd, 3rd or maybe even the 7th time thru. And yes this may be a lack of technical ability on my part but I’m ok with it for now. Since I have this short coming I almost always record 2-3 takes at once in some sort of loop mode, even if I think the first one was a keeper. What I strive to get is a good-to-pefect take instead of something close that requires quite a few edits. And it seems as though the nervous jitters go away after the first or second run through. On bass I’m looking for smooth dynamics across the take. On guitar a lot of times I’m looking at doubling the guitar parts while the vibe/swing is still the same. On keys its usually a timing thing that gets better with each pass since I am not a pianist/keyboardist (but I’m trying and practicing everyday). Few of us are gifted across a large selection of traditional instruments. The project studio/diy/jack-of-all type cats like me, gotta have a way to make this part of the session flow so as not to lose the vibe and inspiration that is alive right then and there. The fewer stop and starts that I have to deal with the better.

    So folks, whaddya think?

p.s. All-in-all, this may be me feeding a bad habit, a disease of sorts and if that’s the case then I guess I should also post the following:

    Hi,

I’d also love to see an option for MIDI loop-recording to create a new clip on subsequent passes.

As far as the limitation on 8 passes, this is just the default value. From the guide:
“To change the track limit, choose Preferences… on the Setup menu, then choose the Audio tab of the Preferences dialog. The Track limit in loop-recording group setting determines the maximum number of child tracks that will be created in each group track that is used for loop-recording. Setting this limit to 1 is the same as disabling loop-recording. If the maximum number of tracks in a group is reached, and record and loop mode are still activated, the audio input will overwrite any previously recorded audio on the last track created.”

    Cheers,

I would like to see this in Podium as well.

    +1

edit: is that “multiple takes feat” on the list as “midi loop recording” already?
