1. I’d like to ask if its possible to get an easier playhead/cursor positioning.
It would be nice to set the cursor by clicking into empty track as this would give a much faster arrangment navigation. (this would also solve uncleAge’s FR http://www.zynewave.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1707 )
2. (assignable) keyboard shortcuts for the edit modes. sometimes you have to change them very frequently. shortcuts could speed this up. I would prefer the number keys 1-4.
3. dragging loops (play loop, records loop…dependant on the current edit mode) with modifier+click & drag into empty tracks. maybe another modifier+click & drag could move the loop.
I’d like to discuss these things and I would appreciate any other opinion!
@frits: the new pre/post stuff works somewhat nice! š thanks a lot!
1. Agreed. [Frits suggested increasing the area around the play head and it helped. However, clicking in an open area in the arrangement is an old habit and shared in some of the other apps I use.]
2. I’d like to see the opption to assign keyboard shortcuts to most things so I’ll give this an “Agreed” as well. I change these tools often when editing midi.
3. This I don’t understand. Could you clarify?
š sorry, it was late yesterday.
3. I was talking about an easier way to set the loop and punch markers. This could also be done by click&drag into empty tracks. To avoid accidently settings these marker a modifier key (like shift) should be added. In detail: hold shift in loop edit mode and click (button down) into an empty track. loop-in and out are set to the pointers position. hold the button and drag the loop-out marker wherever you want and release the button.
additionally another modifier key could be used not to set a whole new loop but to drag/move the old one around.
I like the key-modifier idea. I wouldn’t need it in the track area as much but it would be useful just the same. As it is right now you can change the loop in/out markers even if you are not using the loop cursor mode. I have changed the markers by mistake quite a few times.
I T3 you set the in/out markers using “I” & “O”. You just move the cursor to where ever you want and then press what you need. Never tripped me up as much as having to click them in Podium.

I agree UA. I too have had trouble clicking the cursor and avoiding the Loop markers and Vice versa. While Frits suggestion in your thread clearly helps I totally agree that some way to click anywhere in an arrangement to move the cursor would be a major step forward to improving Podiums already slick workflow.
I think quite a few other hosts have this already and I have many times clicked in Podiums arrangement thinking the cursor will move.
I think Ronin initially raised a good point in this thread about easier playhead/ Cursor positioning. Clicking anywhere in an arrangement to move the play cursor would be great.

Yes. This and an option to change the current mousewheel behaviour (horizontal zoom WITHOUT any modifier key) will change my life…

This is already possible by moving the cursor to the time / loop header and moving the mousewheel there š
I know, but it is silly to have to move the mouse each time when it could be avoid. It is rather anti-ergonomic.
It is the sort of thing I do perhaps 20 time a minute, several hours a day, 7 days a week… So it is a great relief when I jump (for instance) to Reaper ! š
And it would be so easy and fast for Frits to add such an option…

This is one of the things that I put under the title of “workflow” not just ergonomics. And workflow is the single most important aspect I look for in any app that use heavily.
I too zoom in/out alot. And I scroll a great deal as well. Most mice have a wheel now and I like it when I can use it in tandem with a modifier key. For Instance:
Scroll wheel = scroll right/left
[Shift] + Scroll wheel = zoom in/out with mouse cursor at the anchor point
[Ctrl] + Scroll wheel = scroll entire arrangement window up/down
Yes, as usual, the best is always to give the choice š

The upcoming 2.07 release has several improvements that deal with the timeline ruler and cursor placement. I plan to release 2.07 this weekend.
