rinxaiParticipantZynAddSubFX is a real good sounding synth, it has huge capability and is somewhat complex, the interface is unfortunately quite quirky, nonetheless grab the VSTi version at:

InfinitoarParticipantSo far my favorite Drum Synth is Drumcore FREE. Google it, it’s currently 1.1GB and it’s FREE! It’s like the freeware version of Addictive Drums to me. =D I love it and use it for all my percussion now.
FA3Amp is really good for guitar sounds
dblueGlitch of course who doesn’t know about dblueGlitch?! =P
And many others I may have missed. Oh! Raspier to me is a good Bass Guitar Synth
If I have more time I’ll add more freeware synths I like that hasn’t been mentioned.

4micaParticipantThanks for mentioning Raspier, Infinitoar! Here’s a link to a most awesome subtractive vst synth, the Abakos: http://www.hercsmusicsystems.com/old_index.html
It’s an underappreciated gem, something I stumbled upon one day accidentally. The pro version isn’t available anymore, but the free one will more than suffice. Good day one and all

LiquidProj3ctParticipantTry SonEQ. Don’t think “oh, another eq, that isn’t nothing can surprise me…” I also was skeptical until I thought it’s just a dll, I haven’t to install nothing… and I tried it. It’s highly musical:
http://sonimus.com/articulos/noticias/45/sonimus-soneq-v11-mac-windows-vst-y-au.html
edit: It’s C++, it isn’t SE or SM
