Hi Frits,
This has been an issue for some time now but IMO difficult to categorise as a bug or not. When you drag an FX to another position it creates a duplicate.
The behaviour is somewhat buggy IMO as it really should not do that. If there was a way to configure this behaviour that would be very useful indeed.
Sometimes I can get a duplicate FX track just by double clicking on it. Definitely not what should happen.
Moving the FX track can also create more than one duplicate very easily, requiring added clicks to remove them, and as a result wasting time better used elsewhere in Podium.
Going forward…
1. Please consider configurable behaviour when dragging FX tracks.
a. Create a duplicate track
b. Create a duplicate track and keep plug in settings.
c. Move the FX track and keep plugin settings.
d. ? (I am sure there are other behaviours as well)
Thanks.

Totally agree, those little and easy to fix details (i think) should be pulished asap 🙂

I will change this behaviour eventually. It’s a leftover from the old expanded mode behaviour which I haven’t adjusted for compact mode yet.

While drag/drop of effect tracks are not currently possible, there are a couple of alternatives:
If you want to move the fx track within the chain you can use the “Move effect track” submenu.
The second method will also work when moving effect tracks outside the chain: Select the effect track. Cut or copy (ctrl+x/c). Select destination track and paste.

Yes. I think it was 1.95 or similar.

Menus. I really prefer to avoid menus for a simple drag and drop personally. I think you (with good reason I might add) wanted to avoid a new user potentially messing up their track set up. I think it acts as a guide of sorts. But for anyone who wants to simply drag a copy of an FX track (possible but not the right way) accesssing a menu is Ok for a beginner but for more experienced users really it’s too many steps IMO.

Better but not nearly as intuitive as a simple drag and drop. I remember reading about someone on KVR trying Podium and saying something about it allows FX to be dragged but “creates copies e.t.c” I immeadiately thought this really should be revised. It comes across as a bug and certainly does not work as it should. It is confusing and can waste time.
In any case thanks for the response 🙂
Frits my suggestion would be drag it directly for move the plugin with its settings. Holding Ctrl and (after) starting to drag for copy the plugin with its settings.
I like simple things, and avoid the menus. Menus are a logical thing, while do music and inspiration are creative/ilogical things. That’s the reason (and its piano roll) because I dumped Reaper.
Do it easy 🙂
Hi Frits,
Just a quick reminder about FX dragging also…I can definitely double click on an FX and get a duplicate to appear. The behaviour is definitely buggy.
Thanks.
HTH
I’ve now made this change for the next 2.20 release:
Fix: Drag and drop of a device mapping on a track now checks if the mapping is already assigned in the track effect chain. This eliminates the issue where accidentally dragging an effect mapping in the track header would create a duplicate instance.
A most welcome fix Frits! Thanks!!! :D/ =D>
..
nice one 🙂
Hmmmm…. this is still a problem in the mixer. If you can fence of FX dragging there for 2.22 it would be great.
Tracks in the arranger of course do not have this probelm anymore (thanks) but the mixer does. It can get messy with duplicates easily created. :-k
The mixer will get an overhaul eventually, but not right now.

Oh…ok sorry I just thought fencing off FX dragging in the mixer might be something you could do quickly. But yes by all means roll it up into a more broader revision of the mixer instead if that is easier for you. Thanks. 🙂
