Just wanted to give you all a heads-up on what I think is very decent mic.

I recently purchased a KEL HM-2D microphone. I was looking for a voice over mic. I narrowed my choices down to either a SM7b or an EV-RE20. Those two are pretty much standbys and for around $275-$400 street price. I got word about the KEL through a lot of great reviews and thought I would give it a try instead since it was only $179.

All I can say is wow! It’s a condensor that behaves like a those two dynamics. I was blown away by how much background noise it doesn’t pickup. And it doesn’t sacrifice the sound to do this, IMO. It requires very little eq’ing to fit in the mix for me.

Now I don’t have a stellar mic collection. I have a Sterling ST55, EV-Cardinal (collaboration w/Blue I believe) and an Oktava MK-319 (Joly mod coming soon). But I have used quite a few mics over the years and I am really liking my new addition to the mic locker. I was running everything through either an Earthworks 1022 or an Echo Audiofire 8. All of that has changed to a Focusrite Pro 40.

Just wanted to relate my experience so far in case any of you are in the market. I’m not endorsing the mic, just give ya’ll a little feedback. Also you can order direct from KEL or if your in the US you can order from Atlas Pro Audio (which is what I did).

If I can make time over the weekend I’ll try and record a little bit with each one of the mics and reply to this post so you can get an idea of what I am talking about.
