I’m generally very pleased with the overall functionality and usability of Podium, and just love the fact that substantial updates are released on a regular basis.
Could’nt ask for more, nonetheless, I’ve jotted some suggestions for future features here, they are by no means serious requests, and I do not expect to see them in any upcoming releases.
MIDI ARPEGGIATOR, perhaps, when the time is proper, a thread for discussing more specific features.
MIDI CHORDS, a widget similar ableton’s.
Integrated multi destination LFO widget to drive/modulate track automation curves, track panning, amplitude etc
Virtual control knobs (RACK type thingy) – for mapping physical controllers to any VST/i MIDI parameters – perhaps as a feature of zGrid.
Basic 4/8/12 slot drum/percussion sampler with send level per slot.
Simple sampler – loads single wav – with rudimentary filter/EG/LFO
Option to configure size of dials/knobs – I would like to at least double the size – imho increases usability.
Add button to toggle track inspector window area to flip between either List view or usual Track inspector view.
In MIDI editor window, display ‘ghosted’ midi notes from different midi tracks the same color (slightly ghosted) as their track color setting.
Retain current setting for segment selection so that reclicking Zoom segment selection button continues functioning at anytime, but always snapping to last segment selection.
Of the previously discussed FR’s, the Zgrid, general MIDI control with hardware, Pitch shift/Time stretching and MIDI FX capability are imo, more important than any of the above suggestions.
Please feel free to comment.
These all sound good for me (beginner here concerning Podium). As a workaround for arpeggiator and chords there are a few freeware-possibities I think, or if you own EnergyXT1 you could use the chord- and arpeg – functions of this one inside Podium.
As there are a lot of simple freeware samplers around, I am not so sure if the work for that would be worthwhile for Frits, but well, he knows best and of course in some future Podium might have ALL those features. It’s just not difficult to find samplers, Paax3CM in the mag, Shortcircuit free, sfz, and so many more, all are pretty good.
Your last sentence about the most important features seems to be what would new users attract for sure. For example, MidiFX support and timestretching is what some users expect in a host, but if they read a bit here they’d know that it will come for sure.
If I could ask a wish for the future I’d like to see a podium VST (= you can load it in another host) in some years :). But surely this is not really a new thought, and probably the pros and cons are already discussed somewhere here.

While this comment by Klemperer is accurate “It’s just not difficult to find samplers, Paax3CM in the mag, Shortcircuit free, sfz, and so many more, all are pretty good.” I would still be very interested in a Zynewave sampler. Defintely. Something that can load mulitsamples not just one shots. 16,24 or 32 bit wave file support would be great.

Would be a great help for me this one. Imagine a window with all the knobs and switches of your outboard midi hardware.
I did try this in Synthedit before but found the CPU hit was far to high to work with. But was very usefull as a visual reference.

A built in sampler would be a nice touch. And if implemented well, could really add quite a bit of appeal to an already great app. My thoughts are along the lines of something like Simpler in Ableton’s Live.

Yeah, that would be nice, but I don’t envisage such a thing for quite some time. There are so many more important host related things to be implemented first I think…
Mart.
