Hi guys,
For those of you, who are playing guitar:
I am playing guitar for 9 years now. The first 2 years, I had a teacher, that influenced me most. Since then I tried to teach myself. But I must admit, when lacking some kind of inspiration, my playing developed slower and slower. Now I wanted to look out for a new teacher in order to start playing more often again. I couldn’t find any! š
BUT: I have a Line6 Toneport for almost a year now. YESTERDAY I discovered the Guitar Port Online service and registered for a 30 day Trial. I was so fascinated by this “tool” that I spent hours with it. I do not want to advertise for Line 6 here, but I want to tell you how great this is. For a monthly fee of 7,99 US $ you get hundreds of lessons, tracks, licks, workshops and all in different techniques.. This is like having 10 or 20 different guitar teachers. Of course, by learning stuff this way, there won’t be anybody clapping on your fingers when you do something wrong. But for those people, who know the basics of playing guitar and want to grow in their style and versatility, try this out! There are well known songs from Satriani, Vai, Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, several Blues and Jazz guitarists and many more!
The only downside (ok, not for me š ) is, that you need a certain Line 6 hardware product, such as a Toneport (UX1 or UX2), Toneport DI, Guitar Port, PODxt or PODxtLive. Then everything is easily accessable through Gearbox, which is the platform on which you tweak your sounds. It has also a song player and a metronom (little beat box). Now Line6 have gone 1 step further and released their Gearbox VST Plugin, which enables the user to use all the sounds Non-Destructively!! For me this plugin is too expensive (200 $) but the possibilities are endless!
Just wanted you to know, that the Internet is a great means of communication on so many layers of personal interests.. Awesome!
What do you think about such a service?
I’ve always been intrigued with the Guitar Port online service but have been discouraged by having to tie it to a Line6 product. I have nothing against Line6 but I have just found other products be at a better price point and more readily available when I have decided to lay out some cash.
I have also been thinking about looking into George Lynch’s Guitar Dojo.

I’ve been a ling time fan of Lynch and I would be curious to see how this Dojo effective this approach would be in improving ones playing. $30 a month is a lot of money though compared to th guitar port online and I doubt that it would have the breadth it (gp online) would have.
Cheers…

Ever consider doing some online collaboration?

Me too! š But 30 $ is too much for me right now. And there is no trial there, is it? For me (at the moment) Guitar Port Online is all I need. Very clever implementation inside Gearbox š

What kind if collaboration? Sounds interesting! 8)
