Hi,
I have some trouble with Library Presets, Library Banks, Programs Presets and Program changes.
In other hosts, I am used to simply edit the presets inside the plugins and insert MIDI program changes along the tracks.
In Podium, I “create Library presets from all programs”, then edit them
and have to replace the original ones with the edited ones.
Is there a simple way to do this ?
I actually have to assign each Program Preset to the track, then assign the corresponding Library Preset to the track, then “Update program list” in order to have the new one at the same place / program number
I have not understood how works the “New Bank Library Preset” : where are the programs inside this new Bank ?
Is there a way to update all the Program Presets from all the Library Presets ?
It works with fxb that I import into the Library.
I’ve read somewhere that you have planned to support also the standard behaviour of VST : edition and automatic saving of the presets.
It will be a huge gain of time and pain to have it together with your global Library Presets…
Thanks.
on a similar vein, i’d like to request that at the top of each plugin GUI you have the following:
* preset name text box, with ability to edit it
* up down arrows to move through presets in a bank
* small buttons to load and save presets and banks
* a right click on preset name text box could display a huge list of all the presets, and then a new one could be selected
can this go on the list?
Cheers
PS I’d be willing to pay for a Podium 2 upgrade if it had all these additions 🙂 As I know Podium is cheap and already feature packed

I apparently didn’t do a good job of explaining it in the new guide pages 😥

If you want to be able to edit all the presets in a bank, and switch between them with program changes, then I suggest you use a bank library preset. Using single library presets are intended as a quick way to store the current settings of the plugin, without caring about program changes.

The bank library preset contains an fxb file, so when assigned to a track, it’s similar to loading an fxb file within the plugin (if the plugin supports that).

Why would you prefer this to the preset panel in the track inspector?

To me it seems like the preset panel is more confortable to work with as you hav all the information right there in front of you.
But that`s my preference. Most hosts use the system requested by SC. So I guess it is a matter of getting used to working one way or the other. 😉
Later.

Don’t say that… the cause can also be my difficult english understanding.

That is what I had understood, but I don’t see how to edit the presets that must be inside it.

When I create a New Bank Library, I don’t see any Program to edit ???
Is there a way to put the Plugin’s bank in a Library bank to edit the programs ?
In general, I don’t edit all the programs at once, but modify the values while composing, adding new prests etc.

Is there any chance to have also access to the standard way ? It is so fast and easy to use…

When you use bank presets, you will need to switch between the programs with the plugin editor. I normally only use bank presets when the plugin requires it to e.g. store a complete multitimbral setup, or when I want to transfer an fxb file to a plugin. When I want to use several presets with a plugin, I prefer to grab them as single library presets, and use the Podium preset panel as preset manager rather than using the plugin’s internal bank.
hmmm…
So, if I have well understood, there is no real way to work with a certain number of Programs that can be edited, and selected along a track with MIDI Program changes, other that what I have described at the begining, and that is very time consuming 🙁
Perhaps that a new command like “Update all Presets from Library”, in the Presets Inspector, will do it ?
Or a drag and drop between the Program Presets and the Library Presets will allow to edit them and to replace the old ones in an easier manner than actually ?

If I understand you right: You have a plugin that can hold a certain number of presets in a bank. This plugin supports switching between the programs with MIDI program change commands. You want to edit the presets in the bank and recall these at certain points on the timeline. If so, assign a bank library preset on the track and keep the sync button enabled so Podium always stores changes you make in the plugin. I assume you have created a program change parameter that you then either automate with curves or with parameter events on the timeline. This should work. You won’t be able to select the individual VST program from Podium, so the plugin editor have to implement its own preset navigator and preset rename functionality.

i find there’s too much scrolling going on there… if you could build some way to look at a list of all the presets at once that would be good? I find that if you’ve got a bank with heaps of patches you can be scrolling for ages trying to find the one you want… a right click to display a temp window with lots of columns and rows of presets would be more user friendly while finding presets
just my opinion of course

Thank you Frits for these explanations.
I understand now how the Library preset bank is functionning.
I think that I can do with it.
The only little drawback, is that there is actually no preset navigator and rename functionality inside the plugins I use.
I will add a simple navigator in mines, but it will be more a problem for third party plugins…

I use actually an automation curve since I have not succeded to use the parameters events. Is this possible to use them in the current version ? They will be perfect.

Yes.
