PodianerParticipanthi,
With all these gui updates that Podium got recently, we have a very stylish looking host. But there is still one element that needs to be improved in my opinion. I think the mixer needs some decent look, too. Only in detail. Perhaps some small shadow or a kind of texture that makes it look more plastic. I am not speaking of emulating a “real mixer console”. That is not my point. But look at all the other buttons.. They look very plastic. The mixer still is hard to look at when not coloring the tracks. Perhaps this is something fun to do for Frits. But perhaps it is also absolutely redundant and nobody else sees the need for this.. just my 2 cents.

I have no immediate plans on changing the appearance of the mixer. I’ve got plenty of ideas for added features, but the general appearance is ok by me. What specific elements do you think are dull?

I would be very interested in extending those lovely ‘glass’ faders that appear during automation playback in the mixer, to every track in the mixer by default.

At least an option to show those faders in the mixer on each track. Those automation faders look great. The faders even show digits as well. π I think those faders would be a veeeeeery nice addition to the mixer, they really should be on every mixer strip by default or at least made optional IMHO. π

Controlling what? You want those faders instead of the gain, pan, send dials? That would make the strips way too high I think.

That would be a great start! π But as I stated above, only some details could be added such as shadows in order to make the tracks appear less flat.

Where should the shadows be drawn? There already is a shadow in the recess between each track, and around the top headers.

Only to control the gain but not replace the gain dial that is already there. How would this make the strips too high? π

PodianerParticipantI don’t know how to express this in proper english, but I could imagine them pointing inwards. Just to give ’em the look as if they were higher then than the space between the tracks. All other buttons have this kind of look. The flat layout as it is now is ok and very clean, but a tight “lift” could make it look better imo.

I really like that idea and I have thought about exactly the same thing a lot recently.

Ok, so you want the sliders next to the meters. Hmm, it would require some days of work, so I’ll consider this at a later time.

So you are only talking about the BSMR E and X buttons? They are drawn with the same appearance in the track inspector and the track lane headers, so if I changed them in the mixer they also should be changed elsewhere.

PodianerParticipantI didn’t mean the buttons.. π
I meant the tracks themselves. Like the whole track is drawn like a button. I’ll try to make something in Photoshop to show you what I mean.. π

PodianerParticipantok Frits, I have just emailed you an example of how I meant my suggestion..

Yes that was the idea. π A later time for implementation is fine thanks. 8)

Are you talking about a shaded effect on the edge of each mixer track strip? To illustrate more clearly I think the redo undo buttons have a slight shading effect…perhaps this is what you mean?
The Quantize menu button (next to the Bar button) also has this shading effect as does the File, Edit and View buttons also, is this what you are suggesting possibly for each strip in the mixer to avoid a flat 2 D look?

PodianerParticipantOk, here is what I had in mind. Surely this is too much shadow.. But you get the idea.. π
