KyleOdinParticipantHere is a little graphic icon that I’ve been working on tonight that I wanted to mock up while the idea was still fresh in my mind. It’s not a final version but I think it looking pretty good so far. π

It was drawn in CorelDraw X3 at 512×512 using vectors. πI’ll probably turn it into an high-res icon file when its done. I’m curious what you think of it and if you have any ideas or suggestions that I can try out.

thcilnnahojParticipantLooks nice!
Just the only problem might probably be that the details could become a little hard to distinguish when it’s sized down. And if it was me, I’d extend the line of the key on the right side down all the way, so the icon has a border on all sides. Also, the screws aren’t aligned symmetrically (might be intentional, though). πIf you have an interest in graphics for audio stuff, there’re a lot of VST plug-ins that allow custom skins, and their developers are always grateful for new ones! (Though this might not be as good an application for vector graphics…)
An example is the drum sampler Poise (http://www.onesmallclue.com), for which I contributed a few as well.

KyleOdinParticipantI decided to take a break this evening sorting and organizing my VST and sample collections, so I spent some more time working on this music icon. π

I decided to pull the bottom device across the entire graphic and give the icon a heavier border. Also I spent some more time adding details and shading across the image.
I’m used to working in vectors graphics because of my design job and it makes it very easy to scale the image up and down with little if any distortion when outputting the final rasterized image.
Let me know if you have any further comments or suggestions about this image. When its done I’ll share the .ico and .png file for docking programs. π

H-manParticipantI like it.
Maybe you could add a couple of dials/knobs/faders? Probably just make it look too busy…
Perhaps the new black areas could become sheet music or even speaker mesh?

KyleOdinParticipantI was thinking exactly along those same lines H-man π
Here is the latest version that I finished up tonight while taking some time away from all the plug-in and sample scanning and sorting.

I really like how it looks now with all the details and extra color that I added to the design. And I just love how the speaker mesh turned out. π
Finally ran into one plug-in that doesn’t like Podium and crashes on start-up but the quarantine list took care of that issue. Not bad considering how many plug-ins for instruments and effects I have been using lately.

SlomoParticipantNice!
I’d remove the ‘extra’ C-key on the right side for balance.

KyleOdinParticipantNice suggestion Slomo π
I did just as you said and liked how its now just representing one full octave on the keyboard. I also did some adjustments on the piano keys and the speaker mesh.
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions while making this icon. The image below will likely be the final version that I will use to make the actual .ico and .png files with. I’ll share the download links once I reinstall my icon design software to export those graphics properly. π

KyleOdinParticipantFinally you can now download the actual icons and images from the completed version of my Making Music Icon. :D/ These icons would have been done sooner if work at the design shop wasn’t so crazy busy this week. #-o
A special thanks to the 2.5 beta version of iConvertIcons http://www.iconverticons.com/beta.php for doing such a great job with the alternate icon formats and speeding up the process. :-k
