    Hello,

Facing a couple of issues with random memory leaks when using ‘Podium free’ here.

I use the x86 version (because some of my plugins asked for it). I also notice extremely high resources usage (given what is taken as normal during my 12 years experience using various DAWs), by a small amount of plugins (something like 9-10 effects and 5 synths).

At the end of the day Podium blames the plugins (there are no specific suspects, every time it points to another plugin) for “illegal actions” that could make your PC run out of memory but it’s been 2 years that I’m using those plugins and never had similar issues before.

It’s been a week since someone recommended Podium and I started using it and I’m simply loving it. I’ve been thinking about getting the full version and I wonder. Will these issues remain after an upgrade?

    Hi John,

How do you check the memory leaks? When do they occur?

What do you use to check the high resource usage; The Windows Task Manager or the Podium CPU indicator? The Podium CPU indicator is not a measurement of how much your total available CPU power is utilized, rather it is a measurement of how close you are to experiencing audio drop outs. Podium Free is limited to only one CPU core for plugins, so if you e.g. have a quad-core machine, when the Podium indicator hits 100% the Windows task manager will show ~25%. The full Podium version uses all available cores.

Which plugins are crashing for you in Podium Free? I’m currently working on a revision of the plugin loading, so newer Podium versions should be more stable when loading plugins, but I cannot guarantee that plugins that previously crashed will not crash with the newer versions.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to reply!

To monitor my system I’m using some custom app called process explorer. I had no idea something was wrong until Windows popped up a message box saying something like “you’re out of memory” (8gigs DDR4 + i5) and that I should restart Podium. After doing so several plugins started to crash. The same thing happened two more times even though I tried to replace the reported plugins and restarted the PC.

I took some time to investigate the issue and I found out that after working on a project for a while the memory commit charge would go up to 30+ gigabytes. The VST’s reported by Podium in random order were: Sforzando, Tal Vocoder, Deputy, Kjaerhus Classic Compressor, TDR VOS Slick EQ and a couple of more that I can’t recall right now. They are certainly not “Waves” but they are pretty decent plugins that I used for while without any problems.

Aside this issue Podium is in my opinion the best DAW of its league and I really enjoy my time using it. Really good job!
