Hi Frits, I was wondering if there was any way to calibrate the meters used in Podium?
Currently, they’re set to dBFs (if I’m not mistaken), and I’d like to be able to move the 0-point around relative to 0-dBFs.
Thanks,
JP
Currently they are fixed at 0 dBFS.
Should this be an option in the arrangement properties, or is there a need to customize this for each track meter?
I’ve been meaning to look into the K-System, which seems to have become a standard:

What’s your opinion on the K-System?
That’s exactly why I ask! I just finished “calibrating” all my equipment to Mr. Katz’ suggestions. For now, I only foresee a global option being necessary. The 2nd edition of his Mastering Book comes out in October (I own the first edition) so I’m curious to see what further thoughts he has towards the metering issues.
I think it would be great to have an arrangement option for metering with the following (that could be changed mid-project just to see compare):
() K – 20 (orchestral, hi-fi, home theatre, DVD, SACD)
() K – 14 (typical home stereo, boombox, CD)
() K – 12 (broadcast, mp3, compressed audio stream)
() dBFS
Plus, Podium would now need to integrate a test tone and noise generator of some sort (or, am I mistaken and it already has one?).
I already love Podium’s meters (they show overs! not just clips…). You should contact Mr. Katz and get his feedback. I think if you integrate K-system, you will be far ahead of the game (at least, I don’t think any other DAW has done that)…

Thanks for the heads up, I had no idea a second edition was on the way. I have the first edition as well. I will now look out for the second edition. Should be a very good read.
K-Metering in Podium would be a great addition! I have used it a lot in the past with the Visualizer Plugin from Nugen Audio and I think its a great way to mix.
I have not spent too much time with K- Metering…but I know Voxengos free Span has support for this built in…
…of course building support for K-Metering into Podium would be interesting and definitely useful having read Bob Katz “Mastering Audio” book some time ago.

I don’t know of any host that has K- Metering bulit in either. Even if there are hosts that have it, there are probably very few.
Frits if you are still looking for ideas there is an interesting thread over at Cubase.net with some nice links as well…
Even more ideas… I installed the Sonalksis Free-G plug-in the other day and have been using it to great effect. Then, I discovered it’s very customizable (after I printed my work, thankfully… playing around would have been very distracting and time consuming)! And it’s free!

Frits, are you able to implement metering options like this plug-in (and with the addition of K-System)?
JP
It may prove to consume too much CPU to offer advanced metering on every track, but it could be implemented as a per track option. Most users would probably only need it on the master track.
You know… as long as this plug-in is free, the only thing I could ask for would be the K-System implemented across the board. No need to worry about extra work for yourself!
Noticed that Wavelab is the only DAW program that has K-System native…

Heh,
Tell me about it! 🙂 it’s almost as if the Sonalksis developers are secret Podium users!
As Frits is probably already aware I made a similar request to yours some time ago here…

K metering…
A per track option sounds good. I do agree that it is likely to be used for the master track, but I would certainly like the per track option as well.
What ever happened to this? Is this still a possibility that this will be put into Podium? I think it would be fantastic personally.

It is not forgotten. I can’t say when I’ll get around to it. Currently there are quite a few features with higher priority on the todo list.
