I’d like to say that this thread is not ment to be a complaint or any negative critique of any kind.
I did some Orchestral stuff in the past using Cubase, which use alot of midi parameter automation to make it sound alive. Despite the fact that there are alot of midi controllers missing in Podium which cannot be automated (which should come soon), I find it quite time consuming to work with alot of midi automation data in Podium.
You play a string sound which you want to make really alive, there are at least 3 parameters needed to make it sound alive: Volume, Filtering, Pitchbend. I usually set a loop and start playing the string the way i want in the arrangement. Then i start to add expression by editing volume, filtering, pitchbends. The best way to do it in Podium is to add 2 automation tracks of the plugin and one midi track for the pitchbend. So while i’m playing the loop i adjust the expressions for volume and filtering by switching constantly windows volume and filter. What I’m asking is, Is there a way to see ALL automation data in one window, including the midi notes? In the midi editor, i’d like to see the velocity values as well as the pitchbend, or any other controller values such as volume on one screen.
It would be cool to select any midi track, any or multiple automation tracks you like, press a button “MIDI edit”, and one window opens containing all the data seperated underneath with the selected automation tracks. Example: on top are the midi notes, underneath the velocity values, under the pitchbend curve, underneath the modwheel curve, underneath any automation track etc.. It should be easy to change the order of the automation appearing, or switch it on the fly from e.g. pitchbend to midi controler xy, from automation data xy to any other automation data.
On the top of the midi window could be button showing all related automation data applied to this hirarchy where you can change on the fly the midi windows layouts and simply show or hide automation data(?). Just dropping ideas here.
“Save mouseclicks and mouse movements”, that’s really what I was aiming for when working with alot of automation, especially when working with expressing an instrument.
Maybe I missed something and its already possible to customise the midi track view – but i couldn’t find it (now that would be embarrassing!).
You can’t do this in one editor window currently. At some point I’ll probably add the capability to edit several curve sequences in one window, but currently there are other more important things on my list.

most of these can be added as parameters – there is full support for CC, RPN, NRPN, etc… which controllers are you missing?

I think wanyze refers to a reply I made recently, about making it easier to create new MIDI parameter objects directly from the inspector parameter panel. Just now I’m working on adding a menu button to the parameter panel, with a “New MIDI Parameter” submenu listing all MIDI parameters not already created. If you have a synth that e.g. supports sustain pedal (CC64), you just select it from the menu to create the parameter object for the device.
