I rely very highly on midi loop recording. I like being able to just keep playing until something nice comes together and then save that particular take. Cubase for example has a nice feature that records and keeps the last full completed loop when you hit stop, nice ;).

I’m very happy with Podium as many of you know, but this is something that really has been bothering me…
so I came up with a couple ways to work around it… sorta. Not quite as good as a dedicated feature but it seems to work most of the time and it’s actually very simple, but sometimes those simple things get over looked.

Okay, so load up your midi track and assign your midi controller to it however you do this in your personal setup.
Set a loop region where you want to record.
Then press record & play and let it start playing in a loop, make sure your track is record activated as well of course.

This method requires you to be somewhat nimble.
Start playing at the beginning of the bar, usually you know almost right away if you like a take or not, if not let it play one more time through and listen to it. If you don’t like it hit just hit the delete key on your keyboard, as all of what you just recorded is already highlighted.

So you could play, hit delete, play, hit delete, play, hit delete, etc…
This actually works okay as long as you are quick and dexterous.

The other option is to use a MIDI to keystroke translator program
such as Bome’s midi translator http://www.bome.com/midi/translator/

What this does is turn a midi signal into a typing keyboard key stroke.
This way I can set up foot pedal signal traveling through the expression input to press the delete key for me. So if I don’t like it I can just press the foot pedal and it deletes it 🙂

You can of course set this up to be any midi signal, such as your sequencer controls on your midi keyboard etc…

This is what I’ve found so far….if anybody has any other ideas or options to help with these midi loop recording issues please feel free to share, no matter how simple they may seem.

    😀

p.s. I don’t see midi loop recording in the planned updates list…This is an eventual plan is it not?
