    Greetings,

I’m currently trying out the 1.69 demo version but no matter what I do I cannot create midi out ports in the device list. Midi in, no problem but after I go into the midi/audio setup menu and select a midi out device it does not create one, even though they’re listed under the options. I’m using virtual midi cables, (midi yoke). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Paul,

You need to import a device definition that matches the device you have connected to your midi out ports. In release 1.69 you need to use the old project wizard (ctrl+w). Open the ‘hardware mappings’ panel and follow the instructions there. Please ask again if you need further directions.

In release 1.70 the project wizard has been removed, and the definition import can be done through shortcut menus on the start page.

Thanks very much Frits, that did the trick. I have another query concerning VSTi’s. I’m using Kontakt 2 and would like to be able to bounce render individual channels within a midi file that is assigned to one instance of kontak. I’ve noticed that when you open an imported midi file Podium automatically assigns kontakt as the output VSTi and assigns each midi track to individual channels of Kontakt, which is great. However I can only manage to render channel 1 and not the channels further down the tree without having to assign another instance of kontakt for each channel, which is a bit cumbersome. Is there a more efficient way to do this as one of the main reasons I’m considering purchasing Podium is for the excellent bounce rendering function as well as the fact you can import a midi file created in another program, (like sibelius), and have it retain all of it’s timing and tempo information. Every other program I’ve tried always changes the tempo to the host’s clock.

When you say “channel 1” I assume you are referring to MIDI channels. To make individual bounces of the instruments you have assigned to the 16 MIDI channels, you need to use the Kontakt multiple output feature. You need to configure the instruments in Kontakt so that each MIDI channel routes to different audio outputs. You should then assign these additional output mappings to tracks in Podium, and you can then bounce each of these tracks.

The last time I tried Kontakt, you needed to go to the setup screen to select how many outputs you wanted the plugin to support. If you change the number of outputs in the Kontakt setup, you may have to delete the Kontakt mappings in Podium and then reimport the plugin to make Podium create mappings for the new Kontakt outputs.

If you don’t want to mess around with Kontakt multiple outputs, you can also do it like this: Solo the Kontakt audio output and MIDI channel 1 tracks, bounce render, drag the bounced sound to a new track (the bounced recording then becomes a normal audio track), create a new bounce sound on the bounce track, unsolo MIDI channel 1 track, solo the Kontakt MIDI channel 2 track, bounce render, etc.
