    Hi Frits,
A question I wanted to ask for some time now.

In the latest versions of Podium you don’t have to draw the part where in you can record audio. But the new system/paradigm creates some awkward situations.

Lately I do a lot of +16 multi-track recordings which are sessions with a 1 hour minimum duration. Each time I tried this to do with Podium but I noticed that when you start a new session all the audio parts just continue to record in one file (so the next part is glued to the previous one). I want each session kept in autonome wave files and the next session in other wave files for various reasons. As everything has to go fast and I never had time to investigate, every time I’m forced to switch to another program to do these sessions.

Now, I did try to find some solution or investigate if I did nothing wrong, but the only solution I see is that i have to draw a part on every track where I want to start a new wave file (part). This is a little bit tricky when you have to record 16+ tracks (with not a lot of time to set-up everything). Another point is that I have to see that the regions start on the same time code (if I draw them) otherwise they are difficult to import in another program (synchronisation).

Perhaps I miss some know-how about how it works now.
If it works like I described above, would it be possible to make it an option, that if you stop recording and start again everything starts in a new part (wave file).

    Thanks
    Eli

Hi Eli, good to hear from you again.

If you are recording separate sessions, I would suggest having separate record prepared arrangements for each session. When finishing recording one session, press stop, press backspace (to get back to the project page), press arrow down (to get to next arrangement), press enter and space to start recording in the new arrangement.

If for some reason you prefer to have all sessions in the same arrangement, you can use the punch in to make the clean cut. The recording extends the audio events in chunks, so after stopping a recording, press ‘W’ to step the cursor to the end of the arrangement. Press shift+I to set the punch in location. Starting recording again should then create a new set of events at the punch in location. I say ‘should’ because that is the way it was supposed to work. I tried it yesterday and found that Podium still extended the previous events, even though punch in was set. I have fixed this and it will be available in release 1.31.

    Hi Frits,

Yes it seems some time ago that I posted something, I’m a lot on the road to record and play music.

If I record different sessions it would be easy if I can set a basic eq/volume/otherplugs etc for every track but common for all sessions. For that reason it would be easy if they are in the same arrangement.

I already tried to start another arrangement but I stumbled into another “problem” that way.
One moment I tried to to copy an arrangement in a project (browser window) with the intention to use the basic setting (eq etc which were already set for one session) but Podium started to copy (it seems) all the audio files as well (which is a lot for a 1hour 16 track session). I assumed it would just copy the arrangement and it’s settings and references to the audio files. I know I can deviate that by deleting the audio files before copying, but that becomes a bit tricky; I’m always afraid if something happened I can’t go back and undo.

Nonetheless it would be much more usefully if you could record the different sessions(autoomatic seperate wavefiles) in the same arrangement because it’s easyer to do the EQing/otherplugins-setting in one go for all the sessions >> for direct listening purposes. I know It’s possible to record different/separate sessions in one arrangement but it’s not really user-friendly

Next time I’m going to record in different arrangements and then import the audio files in one global arrangement for mixing etc.

    Ciao
    Eli

I join my voice to kagemusha to ask if it will be possible to add an option for NOT duplicating the audio files.
I have tried too to copy an arrangement for working on different variations and I had to abandon this idea…

When you copy an object in the browser, any child objects are also included in the copy. For arrangements that means all sound objects that are created under the arrangement. When pasting a copy of the arrangement into the project, Podium will paste the sound objects too and remap the sequence/audio events to the new sound objects, so you get a complete duplicate of your arrangement. If you do not want the sound objects copied, you can use the list window to do the copy. Just unfold the arrangement object, and choose copy for the arrangement. When copying an unfolded object, the child objects are not included in the copy. When pasting the arrangement, the events will then still refer to the sound objects in the original arrangement.

    Perfect.
    One more subtlety of Podium…
    Thank you !
(nevertheless, I think that being able to do it in the Browser window will be a simpler workflow)
