acousmodParticipantHi Frits,
I know that the To Do list is very long and that you have your own priorities, but I’m personaly waiting for some of them before being able to start working with Podium. So here is my top five requests and the relative question : have you any idea when they will be available ? Weeks ? Months ?
Group events on tracks that are collapsed, to allow rearranging all events in the group just by dragging a single ‘meta’ event.
In-place editing of curve sequences on parameter tracks
Snap option to snap events to start/stop of other events
and cursor position…
Audio event fade in/out and level properties
Quantize function should delete param events stacked on same time position
And some others with low level priority :
Cross-fade options for overlapping audio events
Support for external fader controllers to control the Podium UI and automate parameters
Shortcut key to make split in events at cursor position
Menu for exporting a multi-channel sound as individual wave files for each channel
Thanks !

ZynewaveKeymasterHi Jean-Marc,
The good news is that I agree with your feature requests. The not so good news, is that it will probably take months before all the items on your list are implemented. Development of larger features is currently on hold, until I have completed revising the Podium guide. I expect to still spend a couple of months working on the guide, while releasing minor software updates. Unfortunately I am slower at writing the user manual than I am at writing the code. It’s hard work for me, and not as fun as coding 😥
But it has to be done. A complete guide/manual is the only thing missing before I feel I rightfully can claim that I have a full-blown product. There is no point for me to keep adding features, if the features are not documented anywhere. Otherwise no one will ever know what the potential of Podium is.

acousmodParticipantI understand well the high need of a complete manual (and the difficulty to write it), at first for my usage !
So I will be patient : two months for the manual = perhaps that some functions will be implemented for the summer ?
Cheers,

I certainly hope so. Particularly the collapsed track meta event is high on my list.

SpacemanParticipantor go the energyXT way where users condtruct their own tutorials and manuals..
it’s so much more helpful to have practical examples instead of features overview etc.

ceendaParticipantHave you considered a Wiki web for documentation and guides?
The developers of Renoise introduced this system and it works really well, as the userbase all write up missing documentation and it can be revised, removed, updated etc. The users can’t change the layout, only update and add information.
It might take alot of workload off for you, and you could give permission to upload documentation to just a limited group of regular Podium users (though it goes against the Wiki tradition a bit 😉 ).

I have not considered this, but it is a good suggestion. I went to the renoise.com site but could not find links to Wiki documentation. Maybe it’s for registered users only?
I think I still have to write up the basic documentation myself, but a Wiki system could be useful for additional tutorials or whatever.

I agree with that. Though I’ve been using Podium for a while I still don’t trust myself to make definitive statements on Podiums’ features or method of operation 😉

ceendaParticipantSorry, my bad. It’s a tutorials wiki, not a documentation one:
http://tutorials.renoise.com/But yep, for tutorials they can be quite nice.

spoonboilerParticipantI would contribute a tutorial or tu… 😀 could be a very good thing if users could share their knowledge with newbies; it would be best to have it open to demo users too, for obvous resons.

Hi Frits,
Any feeling about those points ?
(just to organize my work for the next months…)September 11, 2005 at 15:09 #5466
ZynewaveKeymasterAt least some of your original requests have been implemented 😉 I can’t give estimates on the remaining features. It’s great to get feedback on what features people find important, but it is difficult to give estimates for a rather large and varied set of feature requests. You’ll have to take them as they come.

with the availability of crossfades, it becomes to be more and more missing…
