    Hello all,

I haven’t posted here for quite some time. I’ve released the second Cryobiosis album a while back and would like to hear your impressions on it. You can listen/buy it here:

I think it is quite a step forward, I’ve gotten some good feedback so far. Also, if you like what I’m doing please support me by liking my facebook page (the more likes, the higher the chance of getting my album released on CD).

Hi, Chris! Congrats on having a new release. Honestly, I don’t believe I’m qualified to comment or judge any works within this sub-genre, although I have a friend who is a synth designer and one of the leaders of the microtonal movement, and he composes/records regular(?) ambient genre pieces. I probably ought to forward some of this to him for comment.

Meanwhile, I noticed that your label is one of the few that releases music in 24-bit format. Would you be kind enough to say a few words about your experience with having your music commercially available in this bit depth? As in . . . any roadblocks or impediments in doing so? public acceptance and feedback? Your own feelings RE? Any other whys and wherefores?

I’ve been thinking about the 24-bit issue for quite some time. So this has got my curiosity up about the entire matter. Thanks in advance for any remarks you might care to include!

    Cheers!

    Good for you Cris, congrats!!!
    🙂

How about sharing a little bit of the back stage work? What did you use to produce this? The sound is very good, well balanced layering, no doubt. All Podium? What vsts?

Mult succes si numai de bine!

To Tele: Thank you, I look forward to any critique and comments. Criticism can only make me and my music better, so I gladly embrace it.

Regarding 24 bit, it is a rather controversial issue. There are people who claim to hear a huge difference between 24 and 16 while there are others who claim that it is the same thing. My opinion is that especially for ambient music it is better. It gives more headroom, allows for more dynamics. I like to keep my music quite soft and take advantage of dynamics – the loudness war is something I really despise.

In the end, why not offer 24 bit to people who want it? Storage is really not an issue these days, so I’d say go for it. At the same time, allowing people to also get mp3s is a good idea.

To adimatis: Thank you! Sure, I’m glad to share my tools/techniques. The instruments that I used were: Alchemy Player (I have the synth now though), Oatmeal and RhinoCM. Mostly Alchemy for pads, soundscapes, Oatmeal for synths, effects and RhinoCM for percussion, effects. I’ve also used Tal Dub delay, Classic Vsts, Ambience reverb. For mastering, I used UpStereo and Limiter no. 6. Those are all high quality, free plug-ins that I warmly recommend. Also, if you buy an issue of Computer Music Mag, you get a fantastic arsenal of tools for almost nothing.
Furtermore, I’ve also used a lot of field recordings and sampled sounds.
