I just thought of something that would be useful and probably not too hard to implement.

When using the cutting tool to chop audio up I think it would be nice to have a feature that cuts the selected piece up into whatever amounts you choose. 8)

So you could hold down some hot key (alt?) while cutting a piece of audio. Say you cut a 1/16 from the beginning of the clip if you are holding down the “hotkey” it will cut the remainder of the selection up at 1/16th intervals. 😀

This would allow you to cut up a piece of audio (or midi) into 1/16th (or other quantized value) bits through the whole selection with only one click. Great for rearranging the audio or midi parts.

Something I would use it for is 1/16th beat basslines, where I want to go in and fade out each piece of audio before it interacts with the kick drum.
Just a thought, didn’t seem like it would be too hard a feature to add either.

Also is there going to be a fadeout fade-in feature in the sound editor?

Maybe I will implement this feature as an edit menu command. It would then use the editor snap setting as slice size. I’d like to reserve the use of alt/shift/ctrl shortcuts to more common editing tasks.

    Probably.

Sure, that would still speed up this process a lot, I think that right click menu command would be fine. 😀

I find myself chopping midi and audio quite a bit, so this would speed up my work flow quite a bit. 8)

Very useful, but it would be a waste limiting that “cut into pieces”-feature only to cut notes into quantized values. By that, you only get values which you could create using other means already (though it would be a very efficient additional way).
    But why stop there?
The main advantage of such a function could be to get pieces, which are not archieved so easily by other means. Things like getting the equivalent of triplets, just with other denominators. Put 5, 7 or 9 beats evenly spaced into a quarter note and so on.

One could have it both ways. When selecting that feature while quantization is on, it could behave as you described it, with quantization off, like I mentioned.
