Hey ya’ll! In case you haven’t heard, Variety of Sound has released a brand new and most excellent VST plugin called ThrillseekerLA and, as with their others, this is another totally free one that compares extremely well to many plugins that will cost you cold, hard cash. In fact, I’ll go even further by saying that VOS and related Bootsy plugins put some of the commercial plugins out there to shame.

This Thrillseeker is something a little new as well. It employs what is called Stateful Saturation which is a rather clever DSP core system for creating pleasant harmonic distortion to give those digital tracks the flavour of analog warmth and so on. This plug has been eagerly awaited, and you can get it here:

. . . just scroll down the page to the bottom in the chart. I won’t go into great detail, as I know many of you are very familiar with this entire group of top-notch free plugins, BUT . . . if you don’t happen to know about these you are missing out on some great stuff. They are right up there in quality with the best of other designers’ free plugin series, such as the Antress group and the MeldaProduction freebies. Another nice feature is that most all of the VOS/Bootsy bunch come with good pdf manuals explaining all very clearly.

I want to mention two other good free plugs that I have installed recently and will be using much more as I finally embrace mastering all my own tunes starting this year. I just happened to see them again today and side-by-side on the Wavosaur website. They are the unique and useful EQs called Pushtec and Posihfopit. Pushtec in particular has got to be the most interesting or “fun” of any EQ I’ve used yet, and you can download either or both here:

Finally, I use Audacity as my quick go-to audio editor and internet audio capture device because it takes basically no setup work and (of course) it’s free, too, and I wanted to report that Audacity 2.0 is now released and available. Also, I have checked it and it seems to work just fine. It is NOT a beta release, either, and their manual has been fully updated as well. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download

    Enjoy, and Happy Recording, folks!

I guess this forum program doesn’t like more than one link per post, so . . .

Yeah, VoS plugs are used here all the time, especially EpicVerb and NastyDLA – simply gorgeous sounding little machines. Still testing the Thriller though.

As for EQs – there’s actually a newer version ( however oldie by now ) of Posihfopit.

    Electri-Q Posihfopit Edition
There are tons of different curves and filter types. Amazing plug, wish it was updated. And there are some really beautiful skins for it over at KVR. But it crashed Podium a few times – “illegal action…” Maybe some memory leaks.

And another splendid EQ that is hard to believe it is free is SonEq
Shines especially when used with acoustic instruments, and in my experience outstanding on el. guitars ( real ).

    EDIT: Sorry for the Offtopic

    All the best

Thanks, Cymatic …, for catching that re posihfopit. The graphic and info about it at Wavosaur was not very clear. I do actually have the newest edition, off its home website as you posted. Works nice.

I’ve just finished testing ThrillseekerLA, and I’m kind of impressed.

Thanks for the heads up! I don’t keep up to date on audio stuff online anymore, so it’s great to be told about this. I do try to collect most if not all of Bootsy’s/VOS’ plugins.

Second, the links didn’t work because the tags are wrong. I assume you used the editor, and didn’t just type the tags yourself, so I can only imagine what went wrong, but those links have [/url] in front, and then afterwards, which will definitely not work properly. You can definitely have multiple links in a post.
