sam cParticipantMaybe I do not know what to do with settings but my older tunes, and anything I try now, in Windows 7 pops and crackles intermittently and inconsistently. I have changed latency to every option with no luck.
Is it the Windows 7 64 bit? I even tried XP service pack 3 compatibility…no luck!!
Any ideas why this would be happening?

roninParticipantHi Sam,
I had a similiar problem with my firestudio on win7 x64. It is probably a problem of the presonus drivers. You can try another firewire stack/driver. Disconnect your firebox and right click your firewire adapter in the device manager. Choose “update driver” -> “Browse my computer…” -> “Let me pick…” and try the 1394 OHCI legacy driver.
This solution worked for me (the crackles disappered) but it was not what I would call “stable”. Luckily Presonus released an updated driver (still beta) for the firestudio and almost everything seems to work now.February 27, 2010 at 20:24 #17558
sam cParticipantThanks but that was actually worse.
Presonus has a download for their new driver 5.13 including windows 7 but no luck. I wonder if I have any other options other than returning the computer?
Thanks

roninParticipantSorry to hear that.
Whats the brand of your firewire chipset? The TexasInstruments chipsets are known to perform best while other chipsets are a known to cause problems.February 27, 2010 at 20:43 #17561
sam cParticipantWhere do I find that info on the chipset manufacturer?

sam cParticipantLooks like it is a VIA.

ZynewaveKeymasterDoes this also happen when using the ASIO driver in other hosts than Podium?
If it’s the Presonus ASIO driver that is faulty, then perhaps the ASIO4ALL driver will be better at communicating with the interface.

Yes but if I open a website and play a video, no pops!?
Sound Forge, reaper, podium, etc…pops….very inconsistent too. Seems like the longer the play the worse the pops….first 20 seconds I am thinking, good, I fixed it…..but no!

Mike GParticipantHi Sam C,
I also have presonus firebox running on Win 7 64 bit.
Latest Presonus Drivers all running fine.
I’m running on a DELL precision MC6400 laptop.
Have you tried turning off virus software, i have presviously had issues with virus software running on vista with my presonus?
Hope that helps,

Mike GHi Mike, no antivirus on. Is there anything else you might be able to think of…if it works on yours I must be missing something??

Mike GParticipantTry “Latency checker” (google it)
Also get latest drivers for everything possible on your machine.
Can’t think of anything else to suggest.

ZynewaveKeymasterSam, did you try the ASIO4ALL driver? If so, did it show the same problems?

I did not realize I could try Asio4all? I’ll check it out and let you know. Calling presonus too but I am told not to expect much help!
