I am trying to run Podium Free on my Dell Inspiron e1705 laptop with a SigmaTel audio card.

I installed Podium Free and the ASIO drivers with no trouble. I configured PF to use the ASIO drivers and since I don’t have a MIDI keyboard I left that unassigned.

I downloaded and installed some VST plug-ins, and they seem to be integrating into PF.

But when I try to create and edit a new track using the VST source, I can’t get any sound to come from the keyboard that pops up. Also, PF doesn’t record any of the key strokes I make on that keyboard.

Have I configured something wrong or is PF not compatible with my hardware?

Below is a link to a screenshot of the part that isn’t working. When I click on the keyboard a sound should play and the note should be recorded on the track. Instead, nothing happens. Click. Silence. Nothing recorded.

What can I do to start recording notes on the track?

Hi, I’m not sure if you record notes like that as I insert them using the mouse on the timeline area. Clicking those notes should produce sound though. Is it possible that ASIO4ALL has multiple outputs enabled and that Podium is using the first it finds, which you may not be using?

If the track level meter is not peaking when you play the note, then it could be a problem with the VST instrument. Try to use another VST instrument. You should also verify that your audio interface is configured correctly, by playing a wave file either from the Podium file browser or an a track.

The keyboard in the editor is for auditioning and doesn’t record mouse clicks. Though it might be a good feature for those not using a MIDI keyboard 🙂

    • Tip : Clicking towards the left on a key auditions at low velocity; clicking towards the right auditions at high velocity 🙂
Also, click the ‘R’ button on track headers to arm that track for recording (audio, midi events or automation).

Definitely test your setup with Zynewave’s suggestion first. i.e. Drop a wav/aiff file onto the timeline and play. If you still hear nothing then check your Setup > Midi/Audio settings.

Could you tell us what plugin you’re having trouble with? Some of us might have it, or would be willing to install and test it.

I think that a vst plugin just needed to be loaded, though that may be too simple… it took me a while just to figure out how to load a plugin fully.
