    Hi all,

i just heard of Podium at the KVR forum and thought “Great, another Sequencer, let’s see how they messed it up this time” 🙂 (JUST KIDDIN’!)

So I downloaded the Demo and i kinda like it and really want to love it, but there are many things too confusing for me, so many questions, simple questions of “How To…”. I try to keep this email short, so please apologize if I get straight to the point.

    1) Suggestion:
in the MAP view, there should be a search field (as implemented in the music tracker Renoise). If i type a letter, lets say “Z” into the search field, the entire treeview shows me all devices containing the letter Z. If I type in “Zeb”, the treeview should show me Zebra2, Zebralette and hide all the other devices. If i delete all text in the search field i can see all existing devices. This searchfield could also be implemented in Input, Map, Preset, Param, Track.

    2) Busses Question:
Very, very very confusing for me. I loaded the Busses example project. They all contain Bus A and B send and return tracks. How could i add more Bus send and returns if i wanted to, if A/B or 1-4 is not enough? I can see a small s and r icon infront of the Bus, why or how can i create/add a track and simply say this is send or return device? example: Right Mousebutton > Create Track > Dialog opens, there should be an option to say this is a send/return bus device, click OK, and voila – two tracks (send and return) of this track are inserted in the device list as a bus track.

    3) More Busses Questions:
It seems like a Bus in Podium ALWAYS sends 100% of a signal to a return? For e.g. How could i only send 20% of a track to a bus return, for e.g. i want some claps and hihats to send to a bus using the same reverb. I couldn’t find any dry/wet knobs or sliders for any bus.

    4) Suggestion: A full Demo Project:
I personally learn best with existing full demo projects, like a full arrangement using all the features (midi automatiion, bus returns/sends). Browsing through the tracks, see how effects are used.. Midi tracks, audio tracks, timestretching, effects, etc.. It doesn’t need to be long, 30 seconds could be enough for a demo project.

Many thanks for answering my maybe totally stupid questions in advance! More (silly) questions might follow, but i better leave those for next time 🙂

    Hi,

    1) Agreed. It’s already on the future plan.

    2) You add more bus instances to the project with the menus of the devices panel on the project start page. You add tracks with bus send and return mappings just like you do with any other type of mappings. You can insert a bus send with a single drag action. Take a look at the video tutorials in the wiki section for some hints. Dragging in a send mapping does not automatically create a track with the return mapping if not already present. This is something I plan to implement in the future.

    3) On each track with a bus send mapping you have a gain and a send dial. The gain dial controls the amount of “dry” signal that continues upwards in the track hierarchy. The send dial controls the amount of “wet” signal that is sent into the bus.

    4) The current example projects require that the user installs a selection of freeware plugins. I also would like to have full example projects included with Podium. I just need to create zSynth, zSampler, zComp, zMaster…

Wow, thank you Zynewave for your quick reply, impressive. I really think Podium has a bright future so I just ordered my copy 2 minutes ago. Thanks Zynewave for such a great product! 😉

It would also help if you made a small introduction to the demo projects telling what freeware plugins are used and maybe links where to download them.

And wanyze, I am new too and feel exactly the same way about Podium. It’s already in such a solid state that it feels future-proof. There are many small things missing, but most of them I can imagine being possible to add without major headaches – of course they add up to lot of work, but still…

    I’m glad I found it!

Hehe, indeed. I was getting frustrated with the eXT2 development because of the broken state of the engine (I get horrible glitches whatever I do), which hasn’t gotten any better with the latest updates and Jorgen hasn’t commented on this for some reason.

Also the fact that it will probably take a loooong time before automation and other important things are implemented.

Before it was started, I got the impression that eXT2 is mostly ready and testing can start (in three phases). I was disappointed to see that it’s still very unfinished. Also, I cound’t care less about the Linux version.

I had no idea that Podium is as sophisticated as it is. 😆

+1! I was about to jump totally into XT and Xt2 but its frusttrating to see the development and i don’t care about the Linux version either. I agree that Podium is pretty solid, as you said, lots of small things here and there (even though i haven’t fully understood its concept yet 🙂 ), but im going there.

That would be very nice 😉

This I think has surprised many. It really did appear to be maybe a few weeks of testing or so and then by late Dec 06 or late January 07 it would have been ready, but it is sooooooo far off the radar at this point. My main use would have been as a VSTi in Podium.

Some estimates have a summer release for it. I think EXT2 is a total rewrite but thankfully Frits does not have to do that with Podium and although Podium features might not arrive as fast as some other hosts they are still very frequent and the development pace is just right IMO. 😉
