I learned about Podium Free in Hispasonic.com
It is a full working DAW I am enjoying a lot.
In KVRAudio database.
As I’m a registered user already, if I win I’ll give my license to beitenh (glad to see you here, I’m kyo)
I have discovered Podium in the news at KVR, but I don’t remember when, it can be several years ago.
If I remember well, I have opened it and found it strange and curious, so I deleted it immediatly.
When I recently saw that a free version was available, again at KVR, I decided to give it another chance.
There are so many incredible free VST plugins, and so few free VST host !
As I did before for Tracktion 1.6 (that Mackie gave for free before the release of Tracktion 2) and for the free version of Mutools Mulab,
I decided to take the time to explore the software.
The result is that Podium Free is by far the best free VST host, and probably one of the best free application you can find on Windows.
I will probably buy it someday, but I wait for a better support of midi controllers and VST midi plugins, and also for a better financial situation.
The fact is that if this free version hasn’t be released, I would never had enought curiosity and courage to try Podium.
In the last years I have tested many Sequencers. I work with Live, Samplitude, Acid, Reaper etc. [ see my Quicktestings: http://musik.ansatheus.de and Menu ‘Software->Sequenzer’ ] Podium make in this Version a good Job with Audiorecording – Zero-Latency after recordings the tracks [ I wish Audio-Timestretching/Warp/Looping like Ableton Live 8) ] . Live & Co works not so good with Recording. It’s really a nice Performance!
I have found Podium in Google.
I have known Podium for several years. KVR was the place i first saw it mentioned. It was known as the “classy unknown sequencer” in my memory. I downloaded the demo but i couldn’t grasp it, especially as i was used to Tracktion.
I tried it again after Tracktion was abandoned. The experience was much better and, as i like to support small developers, i bought it in a whim. Since then it has come a long way really fast and i’m not longing for Tracktion anymore, except for the clip-based fx.
I believe I first heard of Podium at KVR. I tried it several times at early stages and I remember it being confusing, but getting better every time. I liked the UI a lot and that’s probably why I kept testing Podium from time to time.
When I saw the announcement for the free version I gave it another shot and this time everything seemed logical and easily understandable. Even the mixer that was probably the most confusing part wasn’t confusing at all. Podium changed a lot to the better, or I finally started to understand it :).
I was made aware of Podium through KVR upon its initial release iirc. Tried it off and on over the years although I found the mixer paradigm and device setup confusing.. Decided to give things another try when Podium Free was released and was very pleased to find things had moved on in the usability department š
Shif.
I saw podium first, when I was looking for fabfilter tuts at youtube.
Since a long time I’m a FL Studio user.
I’m looking for a music tool that’s supporting my personal workflow in a better way. That means: freezing of tracks, more structure/more overview over song, tracks, automation, routings.
Less use of keyboard, more support of mouse orientated working.
In FL my workflow is interrupted by manual freezing, reorder things, trying to keep the overview. And I don’t see that they will improve those thinks, instead of that more visual toys are implemented.
I’m very impressed by podium and wondered, why I didn’t discover it earlier.
Very nice GUI > this is important for me.
As usual, there is also a time to get used to this tool and to find out, if it’s complete. For me it’s not easy to get into podium.
I wish there was a good video tutorial for podium, that shows complete production of one small song, cos the Guide is a lot of text.
Anyway: very nice tool, I hope it fits to me.
I learned about podium in CM Magazine during the 1.77 freebie giveaway.
It wasn’t ready back then to be my main host, but I liked what I saw, so I kept following the progress.
Right now it is the center of my studio and I haven’t been this productive in ages (I tend to rewire in live when I need time warping of loops and samples, or one of lives instruments)
discovered in the news page on http://www.create-music.net.
love.
My story is a “bit” dramatic so have a box of tissues ready.[And some popcorn and maybe a drink..=P ]
When I first started out in music I used Audacity. Of course I didn’t know a lot about music and I used only the samples that were given in folders to “mix with”.[I’m a registered remix artist at fixtremix.com] After my 1st attempt to remix a track in Audacity, some told me I should acquire a “DAW”, which at the time I didn’t even know what that meant but within the comment they clarified what it meant.
After that I was directed to “purchase” Magix Musicmaker 16. I downloaded the premium version, messed around in it and then made a couple of demo mixes in it. After a while I spent $59.99 on the “download version” not knowing that the premium version[$99.99] enabled the use of VST Effects. Now mind you I seriously think someone could sue Magix because NOT ANYWHERE on the ENTIRE SITE does it tell you that the 99 dollar version enables the use of VSTe’s and the 59 dollar one “prohibits” you from using VSTe’s. Now how I finally found out that I couldn’t use VSTe’s in Magix is when a good man from Russia[why do people “NOT” in the U.S. are so much more friendly than the people who LIVE in the U.S.? Or is it just me?]was teaching me how to make a good guitar sound and teaching me how to create better music and sounds. Because of Magix and their scamming asses, my hopes of EVER even being a “small time” mixer and composer of music was crushed. I regret ever buying Magix and still do. So this good man[from Russia hehe =P ]literally stopped the lesson and we started looking up “freeware DAW’s” of course we started with Google, and LMMS came up[Linux Multimedia Studio] so I downloaded it and played around with it. This good man that was helping me sadly had to go but he told me he would keep searching. So I played around with LMMS only to find out that, that program crashes like NO TOMORROW. And I hate that so much.
So I told him about it. And he searched, and searched, then he remembered this one forum he went on and told me to try “PODIUM”.[That’s how he put it. lol] Skeptical that Podium would be different from the rest of the crappy other DAW’s, I googled “PODIUM DAW” and of course http://www.zynewave.com showed up. He told me to download the free version because there was one available and I did. I didn’t know how to work it at first, and YouTube “Zynewave Podium Tutorials”. Of course awesome guy “LiquidProject” came up and I sat there and looked at ALL the vids.
The only trouble I’ve ever had with Podium was of course it sucking up my old ass CPU[1.8Ghz AMD single core]process but after I played around with the ASIO driver utility and rendered each track…the highest I’ve seen Podium use was 15[%] of my CPU. š
After I looked at all the vids and here I am now with a LOT more knowledge in music I can proudly say without Zynewave[Fritz, Frits, as people have called him ā š ]I probably wouldn’t have made it very far in becoming a “ok” remixer/composer that I am now. I’d probably would have quit and gave up on it all.[And I’m still learning from the Russian guy. One day at a time….or whenever he has time to teach me, thank goodness for “Skype” hehe]
Now I’ve tried many DAW’s. Darkwave Studio, LMMS, Magix, Ableton Live, FL Studio, and many more even hidden ones that support have stopped for but by far TO ME Podium is the BEST freeware DAW of all time. The BEST. Small little crashes here and there[which I did mention in a certain post]but nothing you can’t work around. There are some updates people have requested and that I agree that need to be implemented but I can be patient for them.[Including my own little ideas for Podium I thought were cool]
But all in all, I discovered Podium on the “brink” on my own musical extinction. All thanks to one man, Zynewave and this amazing community helping me.[And Liquid. Thanks for the YouTube vids they do help.]
THIS IS MY DAW. And I don’t think I’ll have any others for a loooooong time.
P.S. I didn’t write this to win, I wrote this because I thought it would be also inspirational too. Plus I think also it’s a little different from how others discovered it.
The competition is now closed. Thanks for all the contributions.
There were 11 replies. Using a range of 1 to 11 on http://www.random.org I got a random number of 4. Counting the posts from the start, this means that ansatheus is the winner of the free license. So, congratulations to ansatheus. =D>
To all the other competition participants: If you purchase a Podium license before the end of this month, I’ll give you an additional 1-year upgrade period for free (value 35$). That is a total of 2-year free upgrades for 50$.
Congrats ansatheus! Use Podium well! [As if you most likely already do!]
Hi,
