Frits, I know you’re not working on the pianoroll for a little while but when you do there’s something I think would make using it a lot easier.
When I click on the pianoroll to insert a note, if I accidentally put the note on the wrong key, i have to let go of the mouse button, then click on the note again to drag it.
Would it be possible to click to start a new note, and then be able to move it if you keep holding down the mouse button?
It would make programming a sequencer in the pianoroll much faster and easier for me and I’m sure others (FL Studio works this way for instance)
+1. I noticed that behaiviour too, which feels strange.
And i have another 2 requests regarding the pianoroll:
1)
Mark various notes in the pianoroll and change the velocity. It should change the velocity relative to all the other values. For example, i’d like to add 20% velocity to all selected events. While moving the mouse up or down on a selection, all selected velocity volumes should move relative up and down as well.
2) Drawing velocity curves: Mark verious notes in the pianoroll. With a ‘line tool’ you can click first set a start point in the note velocity panel and hold the mouse and move to an end point, then release the mousebutton and all selected notes change their velocity to the shape of the line.

I just noticed that this is related to another thread:

Mouse release is discusssed there as well, in a slightly different situation.
(And +1 to also Wanyze’s both suggestions.)
wanyze’s suggestions are both possible in FL Studio also. Frits, take note that a lot of people consider FL’s pianoroll the best out of them all so it would be a great one for you to use as a model for future refinements to Podiums.
Those are also in Logic, even the old Windows versions.
Logic’s is good also, so are most hosts, I reccomend FL’s because of it’s editing tools and other features.
There are actually pretty neat things in Logic, such as:
You can easily select for example each C-note in all octaves. Useful when trying out different chord structures.
Or, selecting the notes on the first beat of each bar (or whatever), and doing some programmed thing to them.
I just looked at Fruity more closely, and there are some interesting tools in the piano roll part of it indeed. I was actually considering switching to it, but the arrangement part seemed too rigid and pattern-oriented to me.
Nice suggestions. Currently I’m working on audio features. I’ll get back to improving the editors after that.
Sounds good Frits, and welcome back. Do check out the KVR hosts forum, there is some new Podium related stuff there, at least this thread:
