It’s been a while since the last Podium update, so I want to give a development status of the next 3.5 feature release.

The current Podium plugin support is very much tailored for VST2, so I needed to work on updating the Podium codebase to support multiple plugin formats. I have looked at the VST3 and CLAP formats. I realize that VST3 support is currently more requested, but I decided to start out with CLAP support because that made the most sense from a development perspective. Podium 3.5 will hopefully introduce basic CLAP support. Implementation of VST3 support will come in a later version.

As a consequence of my ongoing work on updating the Podium codebase, the time has come where I need to drop support for Windows XP. This is necessary to be able to benefit from bug fixes, performance improvements and new programming language features in the latest Microsoft development tools. For some years I’ve had to work with older Microsoft tools to be able to build Podium as a Windows XP compatible app.

The Podium 3.5 release is still a few months away.

    Mr. Zynewave,

Consideration for your efforts in providing VST3 support and/or multiple plugin format support in Podium:

Don’t mix plugin formats from the same company

That article does get a bit techy – kinda’ at the edge of my understanding. Nonetheless, seems it would be prudent to consider including some capability to identify plugin format in a Podium project. Some plugin vendors (like Arturia) provide both VST2 and VST3 plugins in their products.

Hopefully you’re already ahead of me on this one.
