melodayParticipanthey guys. i just scored a, um, scoring project and i’m scrambling to find a PC daw that does surround and can playback picture.
i have FL Studio, and i can buy the video player, but FL doesn’t have surround support.
i’m thinking about buying Podium for its surround support and using VideoVST to track the Video.
So, has anyone worked with VideoVST in Podium? It’s buggy in FL.
how does Podium handle the ‘bouncing’ of the surround audio files? do you have to bounce one by one. batch?
thanks!

ZynewaveKeymasterI have no personal experience with VideoVST, so can’t help you there.

Depends on what you mean by “one by one”. Surround sound files are bounced exactly the same way as mono or stereo files.

maximiliansParticipanthey here is a quote from the video vst site
“Current News
25-03-2008: Unfortunately the version that is here is unstable, due to a flaw in the way the underlying SMPEG library handles playback, and cannot be fixed. I may make this project open-source at some point – if I get the time and interest. Sorry for any confusion. M@”
http://www.mattbentley.net/videovst/index.htmnot sure if it works with any host at the moment but try the demo of podium anyways you might like it.

melodayParticipantthanks for the replies. too bad about VideoVST. Is it me or is it kinda cooky that there isn’t a single video player plugin for the PC thats stable enough to use? Free or paid. cause believe me i’d pay for one! these are creative-multimedia-times ya’ll! ๐ฎ
doesn’t this, at least indirectly, affect the hold that apple has a on the multimedia market? if someone could develop a stable vst video plugin for the pc, that would take quite a few bills from ole’ Job’s pocket.
does cubase have its own native surround and video functions?

melodayParticipantand i have tried the MoviePlayer pluggo plugin. it seems to want to work in podium. but sometimes it doesn’t sync. funnily enough, i saw on the VideoVST ReadMe:
“Many hosts do not automatically keep plugins running when playback is stopped, so you will probably need to change an option to enable this in your host. Reaper has the option in options/preferences/audio/Run Fx When Stopped, in Tracktion this option is called “e-to-e”, or End-to-End playback, and in Orion Pro this is Audio Output Settings/Always running. If you do not turn these options on, your host application will not send the playback-stop-signal to the VST plugins so VideoVST will not know when to stop.”
Even though this is a statement from VideoVST, might it also apply to the MoviePlayer plugin? (whereas the VideoVST doesn’t want to play at all in podium)
how might i be able to change these options in podium?
thanks a lot guys/gals!

Podium will always run the plugins, as long as the arrangement power button is on.

UncleAgeParticipantThe only sequencer/DAW apps that score well to video (AFAIK) are Nuendo and Samplitude Pro. Vegas doesn’t handle vsti’s (vst’s yes but not instruments) so there is no solution there. With that said, most of the DAWs use a little thumbnail representation of the video and the results vary from app to app.
I’m pretty sure this dog ain’t gonna hunt but… ๐
…wouldn’t it be cool if Podium could handle such things natively…
(**ducks down and runs out the door**)

yep. nuendo and samp pro are ridiculously expensive. and yes, if a simple video playback were implemented into podium it would be life saving.
i’ve tried podium before. its difficult to wrap you’re head around. so much so that i’ve lost interest cause i wanted to get on with making music. but i know that with persistance, its ‘difficulty’ would pay dividends with flexibility. not to mention, it just looks and feels gorgeous. damn, i wish i knew (and had the time) to code…i’d build a simple video playback plugin….
( joins you in ducking and running out of the door)

If you want to keep your old posts associated with your user profile, you can alternatively rename your old “meloday” account to “22tape” in your user profile. Let me know if you prefer this, and I can delete your new 22tape account.

SlomoParticipantAt the moment I’m using Podium to do the dialog track for my latest short, or to clean up that track. I can do the work so much faster in Podium than ProTools, but I’m having a little problem.
Used to Avid’s way of snap cursor to cut and snap cut to cursor by pressing CTRL I haven’t found that in Podium which makes moving cuts from one track to another a bit tricky. I can’t use the usual snap because then I’ll get out of sync in no time. Is there already a way of doing this, snapping to the inividual cuts/audio files or to the cursor or will there be?
I really would like to be able to do the whole audio part for movies in Podium. Can’t be beaten!

I’m planning a “snap” feature update soon. This will include options to snap to the edit cursor or start/end of other events on the tracks.
I don’t know if it will help you, but if you hold the shift key while dragging events you can lock either the x or y position of the events.
