Hi everyone,
I’m new to the forum and new to Podium, although I did download a demo. Having come from Tracktion, I found the main Podium screen to be cluttered, even if it seemed quite functional.
You may not know this, but T2 has just been released by mackie and the way they have handled International customers is horrible. It has left a number of users out in the cold like myself so I am now looking for an alternative audio/midi sequencer that is solid and useable.
I have noticed several users commenting that Tracktion is unintuitive. I think that perhaps, it comes of working with other sequencer packages. The real joy of Tracktion is actually the very linear workflow. Add plugins by dragging, add FX by dragging. The DSP moves from left to right on one screen so it’s not difficult to understand. There are gripes I have with it though. It is stable, but some plugs just do not work.
It seems that Podium could benefit from a drag and drop ethos throughout the program and even though the bounce feature is well liked, it is not a one click bounce as in Tracktion. One needs to click a couple of buttons in order to do this when a simple command would do.
However, I have downloaded Podium again after watching the videos and will have another go at it.

Hi Steve,
Drag & drop of plugins onto tracks is possible, if that is the way you prefer to work. The lists in the track inspector allows you to drag from here, but they also allow you to assign plugins directly to the focus track just by double clicking or pressing enter.
Podium is using hierarchic models for many things, including the MIDI and audio flow in the mixer. The ‘left to right’ signal flow you find in Tracktion does not apply well to Podiums hierarchic mixer routing.

Thanks.
I just tried all the mapping settings and everything. I opened a new track and assigned a VST instrument to it by double clicking. My MIDI in was listed above this, so that seems correct, but I cannot hear any sound even with the monitoring on. It keeps on telling me that I need a parent audio output mapping or something. So, I look for my audio output mappings and they are listed in with my VST instruments ? Is that right?
Anyway, I double clicked the audio output map and it replaced the VST instrument. No sound at all, but the red warning has disappeared. I can see how the hierarchic engine might work, but am mystified as to why it is not producing any sound. Podium is receiving MIDI messages from my controller and looks like it should work, but there seems to be a problem with the audio output.
The hierarchic engine is flexible and powerful, but there are a few things you need to know about the way it works, before you can make use of it. It sounds like you’re trying to create a new arrangement from scratch. Try following the instructions in the getting started section in the guide to get a feel for the hierarchic flow.

Hey there Steve!
So you are angry at Mackie too. Thankfully enough I waited for T2 before deciding to purchase T1. I have a NFR version and the way we are left out in the dark compared to USA users is incredible!!!! 😯
Anyway. I have come here looking for an audio host too and found it intimidating with all the windows and stuff, but when I get to learn how. I will load up a project I have on hold and see if it can handle it the way I need.
I just bought EXT too as found it very interesting. It could do wonderfully extrange things with a good audio host. I also have FL STUDIO, but I use it mainly for arranging and structuring electronic music (ala, JM Jarre; Oldfield) but found it lacked a bit on the audio part.
See you around and I hope we get to find the so elusive perfect host for our needs 😉 😕

Do you know that the mixer and the bar on the left (Master,Input, Map,Preset, etc.) can both be hidden by pressing the buttons with the ‘arrow’ or triangle on them?
Also, the arrangement window for each track is a separate window. If you use dual monitors you can leave the arrangement window open on the second monitor.
And finally, you can decide the arrangement for the various onscreen windows and toolbars. Go to :
ViewProfile Properties . Here you can move, copy, delete toolbars and windows and also create setups for different tasks such as arranging, drums, editing, etc in the Profile editor type.
You might also want to look at the thread ‘Podium Screens’ where some users have posted screen shots of how they work:

I may have to look at Podium again….
