Topic: Podium crashes when dragging MIDI from plugin

    I’ve never tried this before in Podium, but I was using Stylus RMX and went to drag MIDI from RMX into Podium, and it crashes every single time.

    When I drag MIDI from a sliced audio file in Kontakt, the same happens. The difference is that I can see the shadow of a clip in the Podium timeline as I drag. But when I let go, crash. With RMX, there isn’t even a shadow clip that shows.

    Because the shadow(or whatever you call it) clip appears when dragging, I’m assuming that Podium supports MIDI drag and drop from a plugin. But maybe I’m wrong?

    If there is any information needed, let me know.

    Hi Brent,

    Another RMX user here…I use RMX in Podium on a fairly regular basis and I often drag and drop Midi from RMX to Podiums arranger. Support was added for that a number of versions ago IIRC. I just tried it again (with playback stopped and then again during playback) and no crash.

    I assume you are already using the latest version but it is worth asking…are you using RMX 1.8? (1.8.1d) :-k

    Crap. No, I’m not using 1.8. I’ll try it and report back. Though it also crashes when using Kontakt drag and drop as well.

    Nope. I updated and it still crashes. RMX crashes as soon as the mouse leaves the RMX interface. The moment it touches the edge, I get my debugger popping up.

    So no go on the update fixing it. I’m glad to know that it works for you. It gives me hope that it CAN work. But something just isn’t right for me and I’m not sure why.

    That is supported. What happens if you drag a MIDI file from a Windows explorer onto a Podium track?

    The moment it touches the edge, I get my debugger popping up.

    Which debugger is that? Is it one you have running in the background?

    I’ll check shortly on dragging MIDI from Windows. Just got back from the Dove Awards and haven’t settled down yet.

    The debugger is just the one that Microsoft distributes. It doesn’t run in the background, but does intercept anything that is crashing. It also helps me diagnose BSOD and load dump files and much more. Just Google “Debugging Tools For Windows”. It’s what I’ve used for a couple of beta projects in the past.

    Ok, for some bizarre reason, I tried dragging MIDI to Podium today from a browser, and it worked. Then, I tried Kontakt and RMX again, and it worked perfectly. I have no idea what changed. Maybe something just went screwy. I restarted my system yesterday, so maybe it reset whatever went bad. If this happens again, is there something I can do to help find out why? It’s probably not Podium related, but I don’t know.

    And here I thought I actually found a bug in Podium! Silly me!!!

    How long had your PC been running since your last restart? If it has been running for 40+ days there is a common bug that involves wrap around of a system timer counter. Lots of software will fail due to not taking this wrap around to zero into account when doing timing comparisons.

    No, it was far less than 40 days. So something else just went screwy temporarily. As long as it doesn’t happen all the time, I’m sure it won’t be a big deal. I will report if it does though.
