Hi Frits,
I just write this to complement you with podium. It’s a very streamlined and clean application (in the sense of “not bloated”) with a lot of possibilities. The modular nature without “the sometimes irritating way of connecting patch cords” is powerfull.
But I think this system has much more possibilities and should be expanded and exploited in later stages. You could implement all the functionalities of for example bidule, JMax, audiomulch or eXT in a fullblows sequencer; and that would be powerfull. If you could put all kind of midi operators and specific low level objects in the track list to get a certain “biduleske” or “max/msp-ish” flow of information…
It isn’t a sequencer for the faint hearted. It’s rather “difficult” to get it assimilated, but it gives your brains some work and you get insight in what you’re really doing “and want”.And instead of the hardwired sequencers this will open more possibilities.
Some good tutorials are certainly needed to avoid the reccuring questions.
Podium seems very stable. I play arround frequently in podium with some very experimental plugs etc but I haven’ t have a crash recently while podium is open. sometimes when I quit podium I get a crash report (but that’s after I closed Podium).
below a list of element which are coming a lot to the surface when I’m playing with Podium
General:
-recent projects in the file menu or a new labelopbject in the browser as a shortcut to other projects
-if the midi editor is open it should follow the content with one click on a region
-32 bit float audio (important)
-dynamic tempo instead of the marked tempo
-splitting clips
-a way of change the length of regions within the midi editor. now if you change the length in the track the midi editor doesn’t follow; you have to reopen it or double click on the region
-“drummap” creator via project wizard (instead of having to make all the seperate objects
-audio recording without having to set a region first. I like the regions too because you can use them as punchin/out regions for recording but on different time frames in different tracks (so I would definitly keep them)
-user preferred key bindings
-midi in for tracks (live keyboard) without having to change mappings
-another name then podium π >> somthing aluding on “flow” ….
Live:
-more flexible markers with lists. eg a system that you can go from one to another region live from the list
-a way to make multiple arrangements in one arrangement with a list in the tabs near the track header.of a way that you can switch seamless arrangements via a list
-the possibility to add arrangement opjects to the arrangement. So that you can use full musical parts as buiding blocks
Now I have to do some other work which has to be finished and done.
See you
Eli
Thanks for your encouraging words Eli 8)
I’ll try to assimilate your list into my future plan π
Some comments:
-splitting clips
Not sure what you mean here. The scalpel tool can be used to split sequence events.

Podium has had many names over the years. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to come up with a unique name. I settled for Podium because it is short, simple, has a musical relation, and is to a certain extent multi-lingual.
a way that you can switch seamless arrangements via a list
If you just want to switch arrangements quickly, you can use the list in the Project Wizard.

Yes sorry, I was referring in the mideditor itself: a way you can set a highlighted region (segment) and split it. because there you work on detailed musical information. It’s also in context of changing lenghts from the regions from within the midi editor.I don’t mean the destructive edit function like crop etc. Just that you can use the split function (scalpel) inside the midi editor (with effect in the arrangement)

But not while playing, if you switch audio is stopped.
Podium is ok. I was more a joke. But it would be also ok if you could refer to the typical structure of Podium in it’s name.
you right it’s pretty universal.
Now really back to work
See ya
