Hi,
Before the summer break, that most magazines take, I wrote an eMail to the editors of BEAT (a recording mag here in Germany). I expressed my appreciation for Podium and I told them that it would be nice if they started mentioning Podium in their magazine. Today I got the new issue of Beat and I am glad to see, that Podium made it into it! π
This is the 1st time I read about Podium in some sort of “recording-mag”. Hopefully this will give Frits some new customers!!

EDIT: By the way, this would be a great chance to get some reviews on the Zynewave website. Something like: “What others say about Podium…”
Sounds interesting. Don’t you mean 9/2006 for September? Or maybe their numbering don’t follow the months.
I got an email on the 9th of August from one of the Beat editors, asking if I would do a short interview as part of an article about independent audio software developers. I assume the same interview questions were asked to other host developers. Is this what you have seen in the mag? Share more details please π
Yes, it is the same article. They are always one month ahead with their numbering, that’s why it is 10/2006. π
They give a very nice review and even recommended Podium as some kind of “editor’s choice” (I don’t know the english term for “Empfehlung der Redaktion”). There is a screenshot given and at the end there is a short column with pros and cons.
Pros:
VST-Support
object orientated workflow
hirarchic structure
multi i/o
sidechain support
Cons:
lack of pitch shifting and timestretching (although they reveal your plans to implement this shortly)
They say you give updates 3 times a year. π I guess they didn’t believe, that a developer can give updates the way you do! π
There is also a list with all tested sequencers with short infos. Sad but true, in that list they misspelled Zynewave.com (they wrote Zanewave.com). I hope the average reader realizes that mistake. But in the review, your web adress is spelled correctly.
The editors point out that Podium is to some extend far more flexible and packed with features than some of the “BIG ONES” like Cubase or Logic.
Considering the fact that you are the only developer, that they wrote an interview about, I think they must have liked Podium the way we all do! π
I’m glad they finally contacted you.
here is the website of the mag: http://www.beat.de/
The current issue is new. They haven’t updated their website yet.

They say you give updates 3 times a year.
That’s probably lost in translation. I wrote in my interview that I release updates “2-3 times every month”.
What were the other sequencers tested in the article?
There were tested the “small” versions of Cubase, such as LE and SE, Logic Express, Energy XT, Intuem, Reaper, Multitrack Studio and Podium.
Some others were only mentioned (with small pics and a website adress) in a small box at the bottom of the article, but these are too many to write them down here.
Probably a good time to update the Podium demo π
New users should get used to the new project page!!
Probably a good time to update the Podium demo
The latest 1.66 release is available as a demo. I’ll probably release another demo at the end of the month when the start page is more complete.

Oh, I didn’t see that, because you didn’t mention it on the “Releases” site.

Good stuff…
Interesting. π
Hi,
I read the BEAT article and they say that the more typical (or special) Podium features are:
– it is perfect for object oriented editing
– there is not really a difference between editing a sequence or an object (in the meaning that Podium has a very good workflow scheme)
I remember: as I came in first contact with Podium I did not see these points. As I read the online manual it appeared to me like a good but very common sequencer software. May be it would be a good idea to show these 2 aspects a little bit more in the manual, wiki or in an extra online workshop? Object oriented editing really is a “plus” and how the workflow of a sequencer is, often is THE reason for buying it or not.
I did not check the manual or wiki since some months because of traveling, so just ignore my posting if there already should be a workshop or manual for these features π

I just saw in the current issue of BEAT, that the next issue includes a full version of Podium. So THAT is the mag that is gonna spread Podium.. 8)
What will be the restrictions? They say it will be a full version, so are there any restrictions at all? Will the owners be able to update to new Podium Versions?

What will be the restrictions?
No restrictions. It is a identical to a full version, except that zReverb is not included. The splash screen will show “Beat Edition” and possibly a Beat logo will appear in the UI. The Beat Edition will not be updated, so Beat users will need to purchase a license to get access to new Podium releases. They have created a Podium workshop article which should be in the mag as well.

That is the best way to approach it IMO. π

I had a look at Beat magazines website today. It looks like the latest edition has been on sale since the 3rd of November. Does the full special edition of Podium feature in that one or the next edition, maybe due out around the end of Nov / early DEC ?
