ive noticed that podium seems to be always caught behind. it seems like every note that i input or evry move that i make has to catch up. why? and how do i fix this. im not talking about audio latency im saying that basiclly podium reacts extremely slow and is quite hard in to work as its so slow to respond to commands and other “enviromental things” . thanx frits 🙂
To ensure steady playback timing, the Podium engine will prepare and ‘preplay’ all notes, audio and automation up to one second before it is audible. This means that if you during playback insert a note at a position that is less than one second later than the current playback position, it will not be heard in playback.
so whats the best way to work in podium this way frits? is there a certain length of notes that i shouldnt go further then at a time? or other ways that make it easy to work with this “safe” style?

The length of the notes should not have any influence. Maybe I misunderstood you: Are you talking about playback response to editing, or are you talking about the UI being slow?
ui being slow. how to work faster 🙂
ui being slow
Forget my previous answer then.

Are you saying that if you use the pencil tool to draw or move a note event, there is a noticeable delay from the time you release the mouse till the note is drawn? 😯
Whare are your system specs? More specifically, what’s the speed of your CPU, what graphics card are you using, and how much video memory does the graphics card have?
frits, the delay is COMPLETELY UNWORKABLE!!! and im very frusterated. i have to wait a secong or two before each note shows up in the sequencer and another to hear it. this CANT be normal. i cant work in this slow enviroment and need to understand why this is happening and how to fix it.
my system specs are, pentium 4 768 ram, 80 gig hd, audigy 2 soundcard

proably an inbuilt video card think 64 megs could be 32 though

There should be no noticeable delay at all before the note is drawn on the display. Just to make sure; I assume you are using the mouse and not a MIDI keyboard to input the notes. If you use MIDI input to record notes, then the notes are only drawn once the note-off is received. The delay before the note is auditioned should be no longer than what the latency of your soundcard is set to.
Which Windows version are you using?
Has it always been like this?
What is the Podium CPU usage percent when you experience the delay?
Is this PC also the one you use for internet? I ask because I’ve previously received reports of e.g. slow saves which was caused by a background spyware detection program. If you have any of these programs installed (spyware, antivirus etc.), then try temporarily disabling them to see if it affects Podium performance.
There may be other programs running in the background that can cause Podium to be slow. To verify this, bring up the Windows Task Manager and see if there are any processes that hog the CPU. Also go to the performance page and check the CPU usage history while you are doing the editing in Podium.
i dunno if this makes any diffrence, but i always have podium set on loop mode as its all i know how to use at the moment. i have no idea what the C S P L options are or what they do. what DO they do? could this the problem? podium seems to work just fine when i click new project it seems that onlky after i clcik the loop on :L that the project lags.

Only if the CPU usage is stressed. If you stop playback, does editing with the mouse still lag?
have no idea what the C S P L options are or what they do. what DO they do?
They set the mouse edit mode of the timeline ruler. Enable popup help (help button at top right corner of screen), and roll the mouse over the buttons for usage hints.
hey frits, just tried again. everything goes smooth and i have no normal laging upon loading a new podium project but as soon as i turn on L for looping podiums note input and speed as well as the program itself starts to lag considerably. enough so thats its almost impossible to keep any kind of workflow. any ideas?
but as soon as i turn on L for looping podiums note input and speed as well as the program itself starts to lag considerably
Does the lag also occur if playback is stopped? How long is your loop section? If you extend the loop range, does this affect the lag?
the lag does still occur when playback is stopped. my loop section in the pianoroll is 16 bars extended to a patern length of 1 bar ending at 2. sequencer mode is the same 1 ending at 2. sequencer arangement is set to bar, pianoroll note length is set to 1/16. extending loop length to 64 bars created no noticeable lag diffrence.
Could you please email me your project file AND your Podium.ini setup file. The setup file can be found at: “C:Documents and Settings[user]Application DataZynewavePodiumPodium.ini”
frits i cand find the ini. been looking and even serched for them.
