A minor issue but why is my splashscreen always just a black rectangle now? – it used to look a lot better. I think its the “dye” option
The splashscreen background should be similar to this:
http://www.zynewave.com/wiki/doku.php?id=guide:index
… with the “guide” text replaced by a version number.
That design has been there for a long time. Please be more specific about when and what difference you notice.
The graphic on the podium guide site is also just black.
😯 Maybe your browser doesn’t display PNG images correctly or something, it’s definitely working fine here!
Seems a lot darker on my system – I can barely make out the graphic. Maybe it’s my contrast settings then. I seem to remember it having a cooler grey one though at one time.
+1
I think it’s too dark (subtle?).
Interesting. I dropped the png into my little freebie IrfanView image display app. I can see the Podium Guide clearly. However, within IE, it is completely black. Sorry I have not loaded 2.15 yet, but will surely do this over the weekend.
IE, if I’m correct, STILL has never corrected their .png support bug, where images would be darker than they should be.
That problems I remember was in 5, and I was excited about 6 only for it to still exist. I have no reason to believe that they’ve fixed it, although I can’t imagine why they would want .png files to not load correctly. I may be wrong about current versions however, I stopped using IE since long ago.
Still, if I’m right, it means any program that uses MS’s built-in IE functions to view .png files probably will also be dark. Or at least, views them in a way like a webpage, like in help viewer etc. That may or may not explain all the problems, but should at least explain one of them if not more.

Nah. it’s dark in Adobe, Chrome etc. Still think it’s too dark 😛
While that may be, if my point stands, then it is darker using IE, than elsewhere.
For that matter, apparently it causes too much eyestrain to use a dark contrast and brightness on a monitor, and while the logo does seem quite dark, if it’s almost entirely black for you, I suggest you perhaps have the wrong monitor/graphics settings for your eyes’ health. And if it’s that way because of not using lights, then it’s also bad for eyes’ healths to not be reading and viewing such as a computer or book in a poorly lit room!
I doubt it’s my monitor settings actually – I have a very good Iiyama monitor and have tried all contrast and brightness settings at max and it still renders as virtually black on that system (although it shows up normally on my other desktop PC). And I don’t have IE on either system.
Yes it is darker in IE. Also, I just loaded 2.15 and the splash screen is clear when Podium starts.

A long shot, but if you have an older graphics card, open the display properties and check if it uses 16 bit instead of the full 24/32 bit.
I’m using IE and I don’t have any problems with the display of .png files. AFAIK the only issue IE has with .png files is that it does not support transparency. There is no transparency in the splash image.
2.15 splash screen looked good to me in terms of when Podium starts. IE still displaying only black. I’m bailing on this issue since it is just not critical enough to spend more time on.

No it’s set to 32 bit. However I have resolved this now – although I had brightness set to the maximum the monitors own control panel allowed and it was still black I found in the advanced driver settings I could also adjust brightness there (overriding the built-in monitor settings) so I set it to 10% brighter and now it shows.
