ZynewaveKeymasterThis will be my first attempt at creating a poll with this forum software 8)
I have been examining the various payment services available, and have narrowed it down to Share-It and PayPal. If you have anything against these services, I would be interested to know the reasons why.
I thought it would be a good idea to offer Podium at a discount preorder price, both to get the shop slowly but safely up and running, and also to give the users that have supported me in this beta phase an opportunity to obtain a license at a low price.
I had imagined a preorder price of 75€ (EU citizens, incl. 25% VAT) / 70 US$ (excl. VAT). What do you think?

duncanparsonsParticipantI’m a bigger fan of Share-IT than PayPal.. Couldn’t tell you why, PayPal seems too adhoc..
Even better, I would happily send you a cheque, then you don’t have any percenage taken out (I would compensate for currency conversion..). As a programmer, I’m far happier using ‘physical’ money rather than virtual!!
If your OK with that let me know.

nprojectParticipantlike ducan i prefer to send a cheque in euros
i don’t really like putting my credit card number over the net
but for the moment i don’t have any money to spend :S
but i’d pay if i had the moneyApril 27, 2004 at 21:04 #3185
spoonboilerParticipantHi.
I would do it.
I would rather use paypal because I don’t have to use a credit card, I have an account with them, and it comes out of my bank whenever I pay. But like the others, I have no issues with sending an international money order drawn on a bank of whatever country you would prefer. I know that personal cheques are sometimes hard to cash, so I would rather send you a money order. Although it costs about five dollars for an international one, I forgot about that…. hmmm ❓April 27, 2004 at 21:16 #3186
ZynewaveKeymasterAlthough it costs about five dollars for an international one, I forgot about that…. hmmm
Well, that’s still less than what Share-It will take for handling a payment, so I think I will consult my bank on how to handle money orders.
Share-It fees: 2.95€ + 5%
PayPal fees: 0.35€ + 3.9% (when using credit-card)April 28, 2004 at 01:12 #3195
spoonboilerParticipantheh, no I meant that it cost ME five bucks, not you! 😀
Like I said, I like PayPal, I have used them many many times now, and it would not cost you the extra 3.9 % because I don’t use a credit card with them, just my bank account. Do I understand that correctly?

What’s five bucks between friends 😉

I think so. I haven’t tried their shop setup yet, so I will know more later.

spoonboilerParticipantTrue enough! 😉
I don’t mind whatever yoiu decide… well, unless you settle on carrier pigeons. I might take issue with that.Hey, I just looked at the poll response… 50 percent want to wait and see???? com’on, you nervous nellies!!! 😆 😆

Donald S. GriffinParticipantI would pick the first item on the poll but only half of it. I AM interested in a discount. ANY discount, on anything. 😀 But while you pointed out the price, discount implies it is lower than some other price. What would the NON-discounted price be? In other words: How much would we be saving?
I have bought a lot of stuff online, often with Share-it. Never with Pay Pay. I have often received SPAM con emails trying to get me to give my Pay Pal information to some criminal. Each time I am happy I can simply ignore anything that seems to be from Pay Pay. If you were to use Pay Pal I think it would seriously affect my buying decision since I’m on the wire anyway. BTW The fact that so many others are selling thru Share-it and not Pay Pal implies they know something and have made an intelligent decision.
I am interested in Podium mostly for its potential future. Without a discount I would simply keep watching to see what you add and how quickly after 1.0 comes out. Or do you take a vacation? 8) But if this $75 discount price is a lot less than the regular release price it would be more of an issue of whether I want to “gamble” on my faith that you will do some really cool things with Podium in the near future like applying curves to velocity or layered effect curves. Otherwise it would just be adding one more pretty, but complicated sequencer without MIDI FX or notation.

I’ve only hinted at the final price in other topics, so these are my current plans: (Euro prices include VAT. US$ price based on current exchange rate and excl. VAT)
- Preorder: 75€ / 71$
- Version 1.00: 90€ / 86$
- Version 1.10: 100€ / 95$
After 1.10 I hope to stay at this base price. Any major new features added in the future I plan to offer as add-on licenses. A very rough estimate is that add-on licenses will appear with v1.50 maybe 6 months from now. This all depends on how sales turns out.
I wouldn’t dream of relying on PayPal as the only payment option. Currently I have signed up with both Share-It and PayPal, and I probably will offer the option to use either of the two on the shop page.
Or do you take a vacation?
Va-ca-tion? 😕
I’m working 80+ hours a week on this thing. A quick look out the window is all the vacation I need. 😉May 31, 2004 at 13:20 #3331
NoswingParticipanti would be interrested into preordering this but i have a question… why is the european price more expensive thant the american one ?
May 31, 2004 at 13:21 #3332
NoswingParticipantforgot me i didn’t understand the VAT thing
May 31, 2004 at 13:26 #3333
ZynewaveKeymasterThe preorder offer has expired. This poll was before the v1.00 release.
Yes the VAT can be confusing. The Euro price excl. VAT is 72€ which should match the 90 US$.
