2.18 beta1 and an alpha version of 2.18 x64 (64-bit application for running on Windows 64-bit platform) can be downloaded from the VIP lounge.
I’ve previously mentioned my choices in compiler tools on this forum, so to summarize: Until now all Podium releases have been compiled with Microsoft Visual Studio 6. This compiler was released over 10 years ago, but I’ve stuck with it, because if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. Time has caught up with it though, and about a year ago I bought the latest Visual Studio 2008. I’ve been using this while developing and debugging, so I’m confident that I can start using this for building Podium releases. The 2.18 beta1 is compiled with VS2008. There should be speed improvements, but I don’t know if it will be clearly noticeable. Please try it out, and let me know if you detect any differences compared to previous Podium releases.
Another reason for migrating to VS 2008, is that this is required for building x64 versions of Podium. I managed to make some corrections a few places in the code in order to make it compile a x64 version. Note that I have not tested the x64 compilation as I don’t have an x64 Windows installation. It’s very likely that this version will crash, but it would be nice if any of you with 64 bit Windows could give it a try and let me know if it works or not.
Please back up your projects before trying to save with this release.
Well well well. π
You certainly can still pull a surprise or two out of the Zynewave goodie bag thats for sure π :D/
Although I still have some issues with the x86 version (RMX related) I can still test the x64 Podium version for you. Thanks for getting the x64 ball rolling.
Actually I could even test the x64 version of RMX with this new version of Podium…hmmmmm could be interesting. :-k
This is an important step in Podium evolution (i think it’s too soon although). I cannot test x64 version π₯ in one or two years I hope do it
At the moment the regular version (32bits) works flawless, I don’t notice any significative CPU usage improvement.
Frits, I sold Gladiator2 because I was in crisis, if you have the NFR version 2.1, please, could you test if it works in this new Podium version (32bits)? (do you remember the presets problems with GUI resize?). I’m thinking into buy it again.

I think the way Frits has approached the 2.18 beta is the best way IMO. He knows that there are not that many of us who have x64 set ups, indeed maybe just a few of us so far excluding himself even for now as the dev, but wisely IMO he is at least making an x64 version available for testing for those of us who have an x64 system to test with.
Its definitely an important addition to Podium but I don’t think it will take any significant time away from the x86 versions development. I guess once Windows 7 arrives on October the 22nd…some time after that Frits will get an x64 copy.
In any case it’s an Alpha that has been released suggesting it is still early days for the x64 version. The 2.18 x86 version is already ahead of it at the Beta stage already. π
My initial results with the x64 version bear this out and as Frits said it may very well crash well…it did. π π
Let me know when you have another x64 version to test…sadly this version cannot get past that error message. :-k
eh.. Where i can download this one? π

I have not received the 2.1 update. I was only given a download code for version 2.0.

Ahh, too bad. Thanks for testing. I googled around for the error description, but I could not find clues for what needs to be fixed. I have removed the x64 test download. I will have to postpone further development of the x64 version until I get a x64 Windows platform that I can debug on. Hopefully by November it will be possible to order a Dell PC with Win7 x64 preinstalled.

Cool. Full marks for your efforts Frits. At least you tried. π
32-bit Podium 2.18 seems to be working fine. I only really have loaded projects I have and played them, see if they load. Don’t really know what else to do, and I’m not in full swing of production since a while ago so I don’t test things much, but at least on the surface, it seems fine.
Got some graphic problems with 2.18. Some stripes in the backround in the arrangement and on the project page too. I’m on Vista 32.
2.18 beta works fine here…at least the 32-bit version. I’ll try to test the 64-bit version soon.

In the migration to the new compiler, I had to replace an old graphics library I had been using for loading various image file formats. It looks like you are using a panel texture image that is not loaded properly. Please email me the texture file so that I can debug the new image loading function.
On the way ….
