In a hypothetical world, what I think would be nice is some sort of feature like live’s racks or mulab’s modular environment:
You drag in some plugins (or just one) in the modular view and then drag in native podium gui elements, like an xy and buttons. Connect the midi cables to the synth, connect in and output.
This rack unit would then show the gui you made in the track inspector like all the other native zynewave plugins do.
It would also get around the midi vst problem (just drag in an arp).
It will most likely be a lot of work though, because it’s modular host in vst format that needs to be able to change it’s gui and tap into the api that fritz has to make it appear in the track inspector.
(and sort of needs to be paired with the feature where you can see all elements on the current fx chain instead of just the currently selected fx track)
In short: I think docking gui’s creates just as many problems as it solves. It is probably better to think of a good way to solve the problem that fits in neatly with the current podium platform before implementing a feature. A bit like ableton does: either do it right within the scope of the program or don’t do it.
..how about possible to strech notes in selection tool.. ? [-o<
Nice ideas.
Well Frits has the code and asked for suggestions so I guess he is the only one that knows what is possible one way or another. We could discuss this all year. >tee hee< 8) I am guessing he is thinking it over (with a good drink in one hand and his favourite sandwich in the other) 😛 so I will not press for a direct response but if it’s complex it will not happen, not yet anyway if it is not too much work then… :D/ 🙂

You’re probably right. It’s just fun to think about things like this, as can be seen by the many threads with crazy (in a good way) ideas. 😀
Another set of smaller UI enhancements…
1. Clip info when moved.
3. Stereo or Mono…
4. Clip text
5. Track level realtime db values:
Usability would definitely be improved IMO if the mixer was not always required to see a simple realtime change of db values. It would also give far more screen space to the arrangement view in Podium with the mixer out of the way, but of course the mixer would still be available when required. Just glance at your track to see the db values change in realtime during playback.
Part usability part graphic enhancement…

It’s kinda sad to see that some of these wanteed features is 3 years old 🙄

Markus, don’t get angry, but that sentence doesn’t help at all… please be constructive, it’s more healthy for everyone, including yourself.

I agree with LiquidProj3ct.
Markus… 🙂
…appearances can be very deceptive. What you have not seen over that same period (years) is how many times Frits has…
1. Added features to Podium at extremely short notice that were not easy to do.
2. Carefully listened to criticism (sometimes quite frank) of certain aspects and still gone to great lengths to re write many areas of Podium. The current Compact view is an excellent example. Frits spent ages working on that and really tried hard to take on board our suggestions for it.
3. He is only one man. The frequency of FR’s that are posted on this forum does not match the realistic ability one man can have to implement them all. It takes time. A great deal of time, years even.
4. I am only one member of this forum. My needs are in no way whatsoever more important than anyone else on this forum. Even a user that has joined for one day and has a post count of 1.
We are all equals here so understandably not all of my personal requests over the years will be implemented when I want them or at all in future. I understand that and have no problem with it. Frits is trying to please many users (doing a great job that is difficult to do) so it’s most certainly in no way even nearly just about me and my FR’s! 😉
5. He surely has to balance the possibility of any FR potentially interfering with his current development focus. With any thing as complex as developing an Audio + Midi host you really have to be very careful. It is very likely when those FR’s were made they did not fit into his plans at the time. Also see point 4 again.
6. Even though Frits does encourage user feedback he also has his own long term view for Podium. That is only natural but IMO he never forces his view over user feedback. He tries to work with us to implement features without fault or bugs and that are graphically pleasing and 100% rock solid when used. This is extremely rare in the host market. Simply Gold.
7. Frits has to manage a huge amount of FR’s, tens of FR’s or even hundreds now I would guess. He cannot please everyone all the time. No one can.
8. While Podium has frequent releases (say 4 – 8 weeks sometimes sooner) the features added are not up to 50 – 100. That would create a very stressful scenario for him as he would have to tackle a huge amount of fixes at the same time. Does not sound like fun to me at all. A steady and much more manageable approach is something he has stuck to carefully and is surely one of the main reasons he still develops Podium today.
That means everyone has to be a bit more patient regarding FR’s than perhaps compared to other similar applications out there. I have no problem with that.
9. Frits has a personal life to live (like the rest of us). So… he only has so much time in a day for Podium development.
Hope that helps. 🙂
Oh guys, you always misinterpreter me. I dont want to hurt no one. My point was it doesnt look good to me, my personal requests. I am kinda impatient person, so well yeah.. umh.. Peace
I don’t exactly remember when this changed but I’d like to see the old behaviour back on this one:
– Double-clicking an event’s volume handle should set focus to gain offset in the properties window, not event name.
And one more, may not be as easy to do:
– When “Set minimum track height to fit contents” is disabled, resizing tracks hides the bottom of the hierachy, whereas it should scroll upwards to hide effects further up the chain instead, IMO.
Simple (I assume) idea to increase discoverability of podiums extensive customisation..
On right click menus for screen obects, include “Editor Profile Properties” shortcut.
E.g. Current items on timeline right click menu:

Agreed. While new users will have to be careful there the Editor Profile Properties is somewhat buried in PDM ATM. :-k
Your suggestion will definitely make it a bit more accessible without giving it too high a priority / listing in a right click menu.
Oh yeah didn’t think about the newbs messing up the profiles!! (i’ve messed up my own several times!)
Maybe also need to make sure there is an easy to find “Restore default” setting. (Is that “load default setup”? I can’t remember…, maybe have that option on each properties window too)
Also maybe a better caption for this stuff like “Editor Customisation” or just plain “Customise” (I think Customise (or Customize if you like the american spelling!) is a more intuitive word than profile…
Ohh how easy it is for us to sit here and make more work for you Fritz!!

Yes I think thats it. Thankfully I have only needed it a few times in a few years but that is the emergency command in Podium IIRC 🙂
Browser favorite folder buttons should always pop-up help displaying folder location, even if help is disabled – like sends in the mixer. That way you don’t have to play memory with your favorite folders.
